While bankers across the country are demanding #5DaysBanking & humane work culture, @canarabank issues an order forcing employees to work on holidays even on REPUBLIC DAY 🇮🇳.
Circular dated 21.01.2026 clearly orders deployment of branch staff on 24, 25 & 26 January for “special duty”.
👉 26th January = Republic Day, the day our Constitution came into force.
❓Is this the reward for public sector bankers?
❓Is this what DFS & Ministry of Finance call “employee welfare”?
This is open violation of constitutional spirit, blatant disregard for:
• Work-life balance
• Trade union action (nationwide strike on 27th)
• National holidays
• Human dignity of bankers
On one hand, Govt talks about #5daybanking, on the other hand Canara Bank enforces holiday work culture by threats of compliance & monitoring.
⚠️ Calling employees on holidays to protect management’s failure is NOT urgency, it is institutional harassment.
If CanaraBank management have little heart then they should do following with immediate effect:
1️⃣ Immediate withdrawal of this circular
2️⃣ Accountability of Regional Office, Faridabad
3️⃣ DFS intervention against such anti-employee orders
