I'm enjoying the hell out of digging into this product. The only thing that makes me angry is that I didn't start doing this at least a year ago. I might actually have a decent game by now.
I have learned A TON about @Unity over the past couple of weeks. The funny thing is that the "game" I'm making hasn't noticeably changed at all from when I posted the last time. But underneath, there's now a robust database, save and load... https://t.co/lt1bCEadAB
I also started down the path of Behavior Trees for establishing AI behavior, and implemented an extremely simple "follow if in range" script for this little patrolling cube guy. I mean, it's goofy, but this is how you learn. Or how I learn, anyway.
... dynamic loading of behavior trees, prototype definitions stored in ScriptableObjects, a refactor to allow game actions to filter down through squads instead of directly to characters, plus I've built the core of a dialogue editor directly in the game engine that already works
Boy, Twitter just destroys any media uploads. Here's the original GIF, which of course is only slightly better, because it's still a GIF. https://t.co/NLCB1q7EE3
I'll probably continue to log my journey with @Unity here. I completely rewrote my camera script to be a thousand times better. Working on the stars the other day forced me to become reacquainted with 3D geometry. Anyway, amongst other things, you can look up now.

I actually do want to make a full game. I think it's possible. I'm a decent coder once I get back in the habit, the Unity engine is kind of amazing, and there are a lot of fantastic tutorials out there. I've got some ideas. I want to build some core RPG functionality first.
I decided that instead of just talking about video games, I'd try my hand at making video games. So I've been screwing around in #Unity and made what I think is a pretty nice day/night cycle with procedural stars, as well as a basic, though functional, camera controller.
Admittedly, you can't see squat in this tiny, low-quality Twitter video! ha! Also, yes, I know good out-of-the-box solutions exist for things like game cameras, but I wouldn't be learning much about the nuts and bolts of Unity if I use them, so everything is from scratch for now.
Mobile games are sort of hitting the sweet spot for me right now, because I never seem to have the time to sit down in front of my PC for an extended gaming session. I'm usually trying to squeeze something in while cooking dinner or riding public transportation or something.
I've been exploring the world of mobile games lately. I feel like my attention span for games is at an ebb lately, but I have been playing a couple of games quite a bit. #MarioKartTour, because my daughter plays it. And #OnePunchMan The Strongest, because there's a lot to do.
I don't spend money on mobile games ever, but both of these are decently fun to play without ever giving your credit card info to the Google Play store.
Episode 4 of this #AlanWake#LetsPlay. I did NOT expect to do more than one or at most two episodes of this at the start, but this has been surprisingly fun to react to in this blind playthrough. I'm intrigued. #youtubegaming#smallyoutuber https://t.co/MlPhRLANcR
@DanielAErickson You can say what you want about the combat in DA2, but at least it felt like a natural, action-oriented evolution of the style of combat for which the IP was known (I liked it). They went a completely different way with combat in DA:I and they lost me with it. Wasn't Dragon Age.
@DanielAErickson I'm enjoying this thread. I suspect I liked DA2 a lot more than you did. DA:I was a thoroughly mixed bag. I completed it, but I had a lot of problems with the design, such as the MMO style quests and meta-mechanic gatekeeping. Combat never clicked for me at all. Never enjoyed it.
Episode 3 of this #AlanWake#LetsPlay. Normally, I probably wouldn't take a Let's Play this far, but this game is good and I'm still enjoying riffing on it. The story moves quickly and lends itself to bite-sized installments. #youtubegaming#smallyoutuber https://t.co/0JEofWUjOX
Of course, I'm not a #LordOfTheRings purist or anything, so I'm not even sure how much has been added. I assume a ton of it. The Hobbit is actually the only Tolkien book I read, but it was, like, 25 years ago, so I'm fine with whatever Peter Jackson, et al. want to do.
I'm finally getting around to watching these Hobbit films now that I have HBOMAX, and I've got to say, I'm enjoying the hell out of these. I've watched the first two. I thought that I would find them overlong and plodding, but they've been extremely fun so far.
The most recent episode of #SheHulk owed so much tonally to Harvey Birdman that they should have probably had Gary Cole cameo. This show is losing me a bit. In fact, Marvel Studios, in general, is losing me somewhat lately. Some real missteps.
I continued playing #RedFaction Guerrilla past the prologue content, and explored an introductory demolition quest called "Better Red Than Dead". 7 minutes. Pretty fun game for just screwing around breaking stuff. #LetsPlay https://t.co/weK8j7HSZd
