@seulgibair@LimeOvrPortland I think you're underestimating how developed the debit card market is in Europe... a debit card like Revolut gives you free instant international transfers, free spending in foreign currencies, even better rewards than most credit cards. That's what Europeans value, not Amex...
@seulgibair@LimeOvrPortland AMEX Gold in Europe gives you a ridiculous 1€=0.5 points conversion rate. You can barely use it anywhere and they charge exorbitant foreign currency fees, meaning EU/UK/Swiss/Nordic card holders won't use their cards outside their domestic markets, which is ridiculous.
@LimeOvrPortland@NurProbleme@seulgibair European businesses can't charge you more depending on your payment method lol, doesn't matter if it's cash, debit or credit. At the same time, the merchant fee is capped at 0.3%, that's why European banks simply don't have any incentive to pay rewards or offer credit cards
@LimeOvrPortland@seulgibair There are no rewards in Europe. Most credit cards have an annual fee, even Amex gives you a ridiculous 1€=0.5 point conversion rate and the welcome bonuses are like 2000 points lol. The culture is simply different.
@caibyy@EnergyThen@Schilted The UK is the exception. In continental Europe the best you can get is an Amex, paying a monthly subscription, which you can use in like 1/20 establishments and getting a ridiculous conversion rate like 1€=0.5 points lol.
@SAS Hi SAS! I was wondering if the stopover programme was also available in connecting flights FROM Europe to North America with connections in Oslo or only in CPH travelling TO Europe?
@Ruth_GB11@stuffybag@matt_olma I only hear about Americans having problems with banking frauds and stolen data... in Europe everyone pays with debit cards and you barely hear about that.
@Gaismair Well I don't know where that guy is from but in Europe there's no such thing as a credit score and instead of giving u rewards, credit cards usually come with an annual fee lol. Nobody uses credit cards, beyond the few Amex here and there which are accepted in like 1/10 stores
@JonEriksson_@rjfaber91@matt_olma No they're not, not compared to what u see in the US or even the UK. Even Amex gives you a 1€=0.5 point rate, obviously financed by the membership and not by the merchant fee, which is capped in the EU lol.
@matt_olma Rewards are not a thing in Europe. Merchant fees are capped at 0.3% in the EU, so credit cards simply don't have the money to finance rewards. The European philosophy is why would you spend money you don't have? If you take out the rewards, that's truly what a credit card is
@23Xx_SODA_xX32@RufioNorseman@VegasMike27 You think the 5% target was really about autonomy and not about subsidising the American military industry? Most countries will never get near the 5% target either way, at least Spain is honest about it lol
