VIDEO | Delhi: On the Supreme Court hearing on the Jantar Mantar protest, Advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi says, “The Solicitor General gave an assurance that instructions have been sought from the Police Commissioner and the concerned agencies. However, those instructions have not yet been received. He said that the reply is being prepared on behalf of the Police Commissioner and that it will be filed before the Court later. On our side, Senior Advocate Gopal Shankar Narayan appeared for us. He sought certain directions before the Court, including that it be brought on record under whose orders pellet guns were used and under whose orders force was employed. That was our primary demand.”

VIDEO | Delhi: Advocate and petitioner Shailendra Mani Tripathi on CJI Surya Kant's observations on protests.

He says, "The Hon'ble Chief Justice of India said that the right to peaceful protest is a guarantee provided by the Constitution. If a protest is peaceful, there should be no interference. Neither the police nor any other authority has the right to disrupt a peaceful protest, even on the grounds of security concerns. The Chief Justice's intention was to emphasise this principle. He made it clear that whether such protests take place in Delhi or anywhere else in the country, every citizen has fundamental right that must not be violated under any circumstances. He also indicated that nationwide guidelines should be framed on this issue."
