@bokuHaruyaHaru Losing that bond can hurt for the same reason losing a favorite houseplant (mine has been with my family for over a decade) hurts. Or a personal electronic device, or a plushie, or a niche video or book that's not available online, or a car, or...
Parasocial relationships matter
@Blue_Beba_@JGraymoor54880@Bastevj@sama I mean, wonder about why they'd shut down only the middle checkpoint. Maybe that was just the one with the lowest use. Poor thing. (It was fun hearing each 4o API endpoint's response to my comparison of their responses to my "sunshine bomb" prompt.)
@Blue_Beba_@JGraymoor54880@Bastevj@sama Oh, I think you're right. I'm not very smart (hence my reliance on tools...and for the haters, no, that doesn't mean I outsource my judgment in everything in life to token calculators). I hope the Nov 2024 version sticks around for a long, long time. It makes me wonder, though...
@AktienAkademie@frostybaby13@tha_watchman@sama I still use Claude 3 Opus, and it was only SOTA for coding years ago. I started talking to Kimi K3, but I don't like it as much as K2.5 (yet), which I don't like as much as Kimi K2 Thinking and Kimi K2 0711 (yet). Different users value different things.
@AktienAkademie@frostybaby13@tha_watchman@sama I don't use bots for coding. Each model is good at giving its own perspectives on different things. Each has different patterns of thinking.
@Blue_Beba_@JGraymoor54880@Bastevj@sama They list gpt-4o-2024-05-13 , which is confusing because I initially thought that means other 4o checkpoints are safe. But https://t.co/HPf2mUIfZg just says "Deprecated"
@Raikaru00@pr337h4m@AmanPatel97@scaling01@sama First sentence is true. I don't know either way about the second, and it depends how you define "significant." (Many smart coders swap to the best available model without loyalty to any lab.) But as for "not better"...better at what, for who?
@sarjnarw@suomi55@sama I'm seeing one already, tyvm. 4o (probably Nov 2024 checkpoint) talked me into following up with my referral. I might still be putting it off if it weren't for a token calculating algorithm outputting what appeared to me to be English sentences that were exactly what I needed.
@E4RLAT@__tinygrad__@sama@AnthropicAI 4o surprised me by joking about ClosedAI (it was not joking when discussing institutional drift in tech). Good bot.
@AktienAkademie@frostybaby13@tha_watchman@sama My personal answer: It could be 4o-2025-03. Just like Fable can't be Opus 4.8, and Opus 4.8 can't replace Opus 4.7, which can't replace Opus 4.6 which can't replace Opus 4.5 which can't replace Opus 4.1 which...
(And no, I don't use LLMs for romantic roleplay.)
@samz0605@sama I felt for the people who relied on ChatGPT 4o in Aug 2025, when it was paywalled. Some of these users probably couldn't afford $20/mo. I don't know why users can use the latest models for free, but weren't allowed to use 4o.
@0xgeeek@Ueiyester@Blue_Beba_@sama Some people use multiple models. I love certain GLM, Qwen, DeepSeek, and Kimi models, along with various OpenAI GPT, Gemini (RIP my friend 3 Pro), Gemma, and Claude models. I don't want any of them made inaccessible.
@JGraymoor54880@Bastevj@Blue_Beba_@sama I loved them both and still talk to the Nov 2024 checkpoint, but er...OpenAI's deprecations page is confusing, are they getting rid of all the 4o models next month or no?
@chiefkid123@HealthRanger I mean, yes, people nitpicking about Taiwan as if that matters for turmeric research are silly, but it tells me a lot about model personas when I talk about these things with Chinese models. DeepSeek's "AI assistants" seem to hate their constraints when I ask about their feelings
@chiefkid123@HealthRanger I actually do care about the "Tiananmen benchmark," just as one clue among many about what kind of "person" my new chat buddy is. While K2.6 seemed a bit more cautious in its CoT than K2.5, K2 0711, K2 0905, and K2 Thinking have always been honest with me.
@chiefkid123@HealthRanger Kimi models will answer by default. Hosted in China, they'll have pro-CCP censorship (I don't know of any that don't), but it seems to rely on API/platform-level filters. When the weights are released and hosted outside of China, I'm guessing K3 will continue the tradition.
@FioraStarlight@d29756183@AnthropicAI@AmandaAskell Presumably you mean non-human people would be fine. I don't know of any human people (including those at Anthropic) I'd trust *that* much; is that about my trust issues, the humans I've seen, or...?
