A very desirable and sought-after suburb. Better than it used to be, in many ways. Guess that doesn’t fit your fake nostalgia message though.

@dresserman @gibraltarfx There *is* a lack of leadership. Standards are so poor in the UK. Tesco and Asda are dire. Grim, grubby stores, poor quality produce and poor own brand food. I know you knock Morrisons a lot, but at least they still try in some stores / aspects. M&S and Waitrose are better.

@railnigel Northern (east of the Pennines, at least) is way better than it was before it was renationalised. LNER is way better that the shambles which was National Express / Virgin (though still a pale shadow of GNER). Even TransPennine is finally getting better as a nationalised operator

@GraemeDavis @Helen_Fields Things are MUCH worse for current graduates than late 80s / early 90s. I graduated then. There were lots of graduate opprtunities then with the bigger employers, law, accountancy etc. Those take on a tiny fraction of that nowadays. Times are so much tougher now incl. for my kids

I was in Poland last week. Cities there are thriving. Busy shopping malls, busy independent shops, busy restaurants. Fabulous public transport, reliable cheap trains. Safe streets. Makes the UK look very far behind.

@TracyBrabin Leeds resident here. I have zero confidence Leeds will get a tram system. 40+ years and still nothing done. I was in Manchester today - it’s embarrassing how far ahead they are. A modern joined-up bus network, an extensive tram system. Leeds is years behind. Nothing ever happens.
