@SoulFairy3 An experiment for Corporate SA - give employees free will. Those who want to come to the office, should come in any day they want and those that don't can stay home. Run it for 3-6 months and see what breaks or improves
Dear Corporate South Africa
We really truly & honestly cannot afford to drive to your overpriced offices daily to sit on Teams all day on laptops we brought from home.
Nothing else from my side. And I know you can see my screen.
Sincerely,
South Africans
Somizi Mhlongo refused to shake hands with Ngizwe Mchunu and instructed a security guard not to allow him into their VIP tent.
Ngizwe Mchunu then lost his cool and responded with insults.
Hear me out...
I personally believe that Umkhokha was the best original concept we've had since Yizo Yizo.
An original story that was true to the South African experience and didn't rely on clichés.
With that, there is a caveat, of course. I believe that the show should have remained in its series format with limited season run instead of being turned into a telenovela.
Our local productions do well with the series format when it comes to ideas because with the telenovela format, they start writing for social media and stretching stories to fill space instead of being true to the story and character development.
Sadly, entertaining as it were in its telenovela form, it did fall into redundant tropes.
That said, the core story and original IP mode still held for a while.
The performances were on point and challenged the actors. Sadly, Mamzobe became a caricature at some point, But when it was good Deli Malinga murdered the role.
Sibonile as Difa gave some of the best scenes and performances that an actors coach would be proud of. That man ACTED! A true performer.
The daughters, Nobuntu & Gabi as well as Mabusi, and actresses who played them, gave me Clare Boothe Luce's The Women characters ... And they delivered.
BUT, at its core, especially when it was a series before it was a telenovela, everyone involved ... Showed up!
It is unfortunate that the people with the decision power failed to see and appreciate the magic, and they or he/she prioritised coins over creative brilliance.
As a series, Umkhokha could have gone on for multiple seasons.
You know... when writers are not under pressure to create 250 episodes to feed the telenovela format, but can just write authentic story and plots that make sense.
The show would have gone to be iconic and a reference point for future generations.
IN MY OPINION.
In the corporate world, if you have:
- a decent salary,
- a manager who trusts you without micromanaging,
- the flexibility of a hybrid work setup,
- the freedom to take time off when needed,
- opportunities for growth and skill development,
- a supportive and inclusive company culture,
You’re already among the top 1% of professionals enjoying a truly balanced and fulfilling work life.
Do your job. Be diligent. Stop fighting mindless battles at work. Mind your role. DO NOT be part of messy groups. Be honest. Be easy to work with. Be teachable.
This will take you far in your career.
