“I don't think she has to be blonde to still be our Annabeth. That's not a hint, just something I've been thinking about since the movie in 2010. We're still working on finding our Annabeth from the series.” -
Becky Riordan on casting Annabeth for the #PercyJackson series.
This is because women are born with all of their eggs, the eggs are protected from mutations, while men are constantly making new sperm, which mutates thousands of times, because the dna isn’t protected like it is in the ovum cell. This is my fav story to tell. Haha
it is an unwritten rule of life that after every prolonged period of hardship and uncertainty, there is going to be a period when you are going to achieve quantum leaps across multiple areas of your life. the only requirement is that you do not give up on yourself.
First-world countries will invite immigrants to fill jobs, but won’t educate citizens on why they need immigrants to fill those jobs.
When the citizens start complaining, they will pretend to be tough on immigration, fully understanding they caused the problems.
Repeat cycle
The most important thing Mamdani did was change the American political conversation from identity politics to class and economic inequality. That could change our entire trajectory for the better.
One of the most difficult parts of dating, for me, is that I become best friends with someone for a few months to a year and then when it doesn’t work out I’ve lost my best friend
Imagine if she was 8 inches taller, a MEAN walk. These celebrities and reality tv personalities get on the runway and act like they’re walking to Dunkin Donuts
There is no such thing as a "free" anything if you're a woman. When someone buys you a drink at a bar and you accept, there is a social imperative to have a conversation with that person, and if you don't actually want to, that is time and energy you have to exchange for that "free" $12 drink. The more expensive the "free" thing, the more likely that sex or a relationship in return is the expectation, which costs the woman attention, energy, and capacity.
In sum - "free" anything in exchange for your beauty isn't truly free, but has a social cost.
Even if you don’t live in NYC, please retweet this and get the word out so that the ppl in YOUR city also learn that they too can have politicians who get things done if they mobilize and vote socialist in other elections! 🗣️
I was lucky enough to live in European Britain, ironically during the time of Québec's last referendum. Everyone I met asked me "What is Canada doing? Why would you break up such a great country?" meanwhile Murdoch's media were wall-to-wall whining and gaslighting about "Eurocrats." When my contract was up, and I was asked to stay on, I had to say no, it wasn't enough money to live in London on.
Canadians who've never travelled outside their valley, have no idea how expensive it is in Britain and how much more so since the massive brain fart that was Brexit. And those same nefarious outside foreign hostile forces are at work in Alberta right now, as was with Maga and Brexit, and the timing is not a coincidence. Just as we're breaking free and standing on our own. I've seen this movie before.
She also mentioned that because of these losses, there's a big void in artistic advancement across the board. The people who died would have mentored the next generations, the way it's always been. Their absences are absolutely felt. Didn't put this together until she said it.
There are more bookstores, restaurants, wine bars, and plant shops than ever before in the US, and our libraries on average have longer opening hours. We don't have a shortage of consumption-oriented third places.
What we are missing is third places that demand something of you: churches, social clubs, union halls, etc. Places you have to show up to regularly, where you're expected to contribute, where you build the bonds that create real community. All the things that Putnam describes as social-capital-creating in Bowling Alone.
But no one wants to talk about those.
