But here is the irony nobody posting it seems to have caught: the joke is actually on them.

Because the priest in that cartoon is not breaking his own rule to shame someone else. He is doing exactly what he is required to do, standing at that same doorway, held to a stricter version of the same standard, chest bare, in nothing but a plain unstitched cloth, before he is even allowed near the sanctum himself.

The cartoon needs you to assume hypocrisy to land...

The actual rule is the opposite of hypocrisy, it is the same standard, applied to him first, harder.

The rule long predates any modern idea of "modesty." In Vedic and Āgamic ritual practice, worship is done in avastra form, unstitched garments only: dhotī, uttarīya (a single length of cloth over the shoulder), no needle, no seam, anywhere on the body during the ritual.

This applies to priests performing pūjā and, in many temples, to devotees entering the garbhagṛha itself, never gender-specific / class-specific in origin.

It is a ritual-state requirement, not a dress code for appearance's sake.

Traditional ritual purity (śuddhi) standards treat a stitched garment as harder to fully purify, a seam traps oil, sweat, dust in a way a single flat cloth, boiled and sun dried, does not.

In a tropical climate, across hours long rituals involving direct physical contact with the mūrti, abhiṣeka, ārati, garlanding, a sweat soaked stitched shirt brushing against the deity during worship is exactly the contact the rule exists to prevent.

It is the same logic as a surgeon scrubbing in before touching a patient, direct, close contact demands a higher, verifiable standard of cleanliness than everyday clothing can guarantee.

The priest dresses like the one he serves, not like the audience watching him.

Walk into almost any Śiva / Viṣṇu temple and look at the mūrti itself: bare-chested, adorned only with ornaments and a draped uttarīya, never in a stitched garment.

The priest is simply matching the form of what he is approaching.

A silk shirt and a torn one look identical the moment both are removed. Bare chested, dhotī clad, a wealthy man and a poor man are visually indistinguishable at the threshold of the sanctum.

Rank stopped being legible right at that door.

It is the same instruction Krishna gives in the Gītā itself:

Honestly, the man in that cartoon is not demanding something of others that he is not already demanding of himself, first, in a harder form.

The mockery mistook a shared rule for a double standard and that mistake is the whole joke, just aimed the wrong way. 🙏🙏

Alluri Sitarama Raju remains a classic in Telugu cinema to date.

Krishna took a big risk in producing this movie. No duets, no heroine( dies early), he himself dies. Yet kudos to him for giving the character it's due dignity without any commercial compromise.

This was Krishna's 100th movie, first Telugu movie in Cinemascope and was a massive success. More than that the movie has endured across decades, it's dialogues, scenes referenced in other movies making it a cultural phenomenon.

In fact I believe he even directed this movie after the main director passed away suddenly during shooting.

Tripuraneni Maharathi's fiery dialogues give goosebumps to date.

This is one of Krishna's best performances to date, he owned the role so much.

Jagayya Gaaru as Rutherford made an equally powerful antagonist, the scenes between them were some of the movie's best.

The movie also had a strong supporting cast of Gummadi, Prabhakar Reddy, Kantha Rao, Balayya, Rao Gopal Rao who elevated it.

Adinarayana Rao's music played an equally important role be it the BGM or that iconic Telugu Veera Levara song penned by Sri Sri.

When Consensual Intimacy Is Criminalised Against the Man

This case compels us to examine how the criminal justice system should respond when an intimate relationship turns bitter.

The complainant is a highly educated Indian Police Service (IPS) probationer, fully aware of the law, the significance of criminal allegations, and the legal process. If she did not allege rape or attempt to murder either in her representation to the Director, National Police Academy or in the complaint on the basis of which the FIR was registered, the subsequent introduction of these grave charges inevitably raises serious questions about the credibility and consistency of the allegations themselves.

This case also raises another significant question.

How should the State respond when an admittedly consensual intimate relationship between two adults turns bitter? With empathy, maturity and sensitivity? Or with the immediate coercive power of the criminal law?

The breakdown of an intimate relationship does not, by itself, transform consensual intimacy into rape retrospectively. Nor should every emotional conflict be viewed through the prism of the gravest criminal offences.

Where an intimate relationship has collapsed amid betrayal, anger or regret, institutions must first appreciate the human complexities involved. Criminal law should not become the default response to personal tragedy.

The National Police Academy @svpnpahyd and the investigating police @TelanganaCOPs had an opportunity to handle this emotionally charged situation with wisdom, restraint, fairness and understanding. Instead, the case appears to have escalated into one marked by sensational allegations, selective leaks and public vilification. Investigation must seek the truth, not manufacture a narrative.

There is another question that cannot simply be brushed aside.

Uday Krishna Reddy's journey is extraordinary. Orphaned in childhood and raised by his grandmother, who struggled as a daily wage worker, he began his career as a police constable before, through sheer perseverance, clearing the UPSC to become an IPS officer.

The Mahabharata reminds us that envy is among the most powerful and destructive of human emotions. The great conflict did not arise between strangers; it arose within a family. Had the Pandavas and Kauravas been unrelated, there might never have been a Mahabharata. It was proximity and shared identity that transformed envy into catastrophe. The same human dynamic cannot be dismissed here.

How readily does the mind accept that a person who, until yesterday, stood at the very bottom of the police hierarchy now returns as a superior officer? Would the institutional response have been different had he joined the IAS or IRS, where he would not have become the superior of police personnel? Could Uday Krishna Reddy's joining the IPS after serving as a constable, rather than another service, itself have generated institutional envy that aggravated the handling of this case?

I cannot answer these questions. But they deserve honest introspection.

Justice demands neither blind belief nor blind disbelief. It demands empathy and humane treatment in investigation, especially in cases arising from intimate personal relationships.

The criminal justice system loses its moral authority when it fails to distinguish between genuine crime and the tragic breakdown of an intimate relationship that is later given a criminal colour.

Here are some more facts on the saga of victimisation of Uday Krishna Reddy, the IPS trainee, by his lady colleague:

The complainant lady was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in the 2024 batch and allotted to the Manipur cadre. However, she deferred her basic training to reappear for the Civil Services Examination for service improvement. Around this time, she established contact via social media with Uday Krishna Reddy, who was selected to IPS in the 2025 batch. They subsequently met in person in December 2025 upon joining the @svpnpahyd, for basic training, where their initial contact allegedly evolved into a close romantic relationship.

Keen to secure a transfer out of the Manipur cadre, the complainant sought an inter-cadre transfer on the grounds of marriage to an All India Service (IAS/IPS/IFoS) officer allotted to a mainland state. Since Uday Krishna Reddy’s cadre allocation was still pending—and there was no guarantee that he would be allotted a mainland state—she actively sought a marriage alliance elsewhere. She ultimately married an officer allotted to the Tamil Nadu cadre, and her application for a cadre shift from Manipur to Tamil Nadu is currently under consideration by the Government of India.

Despite her marriage, she allegedly continued her personal relationship with Uday Krishna Reddy. When news of their ongoing affair reportedly reached her husband, she attempted to mitigate the fallout by falsely framing the relationship as non-consensual. This was crucial because a breakdown of her marriage leading to divorce would jeopardise her pending inter-cadre transfer, forcing her to remain in the Manipur cadre. Consequently, she filed a formal sexual harassment complaint with the Director, SVP NPA, followed by an FIR with the local police—effectively making Uday Krishna Reddy, who comes from a humble rural background, an unwitting victim of her personal motives.

In light of these circumstances, the Director, SVP NPA, is requested to revoke the order deferring Uday Krishna Reddy’s training and permit him to continue basic training pending the outcome of the internal inquiry and police investigation. Barring him from training at this preliminary stage amounts to prejudging the matter and inflicting premature punishment. Should the allegations ultimately be substantiated through due process, appropriate departmental action can be initiated under the governing service rules, alongside any necessary legal proceedings before a court of law.

Over the past many years, I have taken a personal stand in support of the NEET examination, arguing that it brought uniformity in student selection across the country and gave students from underprivileged backgrounds a real shot at pursuing their dream of medical education. In the last 5 years, the NEET UG question paper has leaked thrice. Imagine the amount of pressure that it puts on students, who had to go through the examination process yet another time when the system that was supposed to bring in uniformity was failing. Yet there was no accountability, and I believe strongly that it was that moment that brought in a shift in the minds of the students to take to the streets to cry their hearts out.

Protest is a fundamental right in a Democracy. The pertinent question, however, is this: why did the BJP-led Central Government take so long to initiate a dialogue with the protestors? Why was meaningful engagement delayed until the protest had escalated to a flashpoint? What kept you waiting?

The students and the people who are leading them also have a responsibility here. It is natural that when a protest stays on for weeks, people with vested interests will take the stage to air views that are either completely irrelevant to the initial demands of the protests or would try to completely hijack it to serve their agenda. If you remain silent and let these people with vested interests further their agenda, then you are deviating from your core objectives. Please do not let it happen!

I urge the BJP-led Central Government to engage in meaningful dialogue, uphold transparency, and take swift, appropriate action to address the concerns at hand. The strength of any nation lies in the confidence its youth place in its institutions. If our students lose faith in the fairness and credibility of our education system, we are jeopardising the future of our nation.
