We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living. Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. – Psalm 116:15

Part of why it is so dispiriting to track the rise and fall of earthly politics is because our hope was never supposed to be found in this world or its rulers. Our hope is HEAVENLY.
Faithful He has been! Faithful He will be!
Gracious He has been! Gracious He will be!
Worthy He has been! Worthy he will be!
All my hope is in the Lord my God.

We all tend to fear trials in a visceral way. Similarly, many of us are tempted to dread the absence of fulfillment in our Christian life.
But here's the truth: bitterly difficult as many trials are, success may be even more dangerous for us. We don't think of it that way; we think of success as solving all our problems. It is not so, however.
The stories of Saul, David, and Solomon alone suffice to show us that a place of "success" is perhaps the most vulnerable place we can be in this life. We can lose our sense of dependency; we can slowly try to assume control of our lives; we can stop praying and reading Scripture with fervor and deep need; we can functionally switch over to a me-centered life rather than a God-centered life.
None of this means that we should detest God's abundant blessings. What a wrong conclusion that is! But all of us needy sinners have to commit ourselves to a life of humble dependence on God. This is true when trials are hitting us ferociously, as they surely do; this is true when everything is going right, as God does make happen.
In all this, we cannot forget that God is not the means to our "success" or blessing. God IS our blessing. God is his own greatest gift. God is our all in all. We never graduate from God; whatever comes in our life, for Christians, God is our success, our hope, our salvation, our life.

... I will boast ever only in the Lord my God
For I know
His glory is my good
See the open arms of Jesus
Upon the cross that day
What they understood as weakness
Deserves my every praise ...

The Christian Super Bowl Ad They SHOULD Have Made
A group known as 'He Gets Us' released an advert during the Super Bowl which, whilst perhaps well intentioned, failed to convey anything of the gospel to the hundreds of millions who saw it.
Here's my take on what they should have done.
