Most of AWPAA budget & focus is on football. Will this stadium help Army dig out of its ongoing, ~$8-15M loss requiring federal subsidy (and the odd $5M PPP loan forgiveness) to keep going?
If we're going to compromise admissions for athletics, may as well make money at it.

@ElamBend@pegobry_en it's funny, I read his writing on Army careers vs other life options while I was sitting in Bagram with a slot to SFAS. After ~30 min I realized that I wanted to get out and do other things. It was like a bolt of lightning, complete life paradigm shift.
@paullockmiller@s_w_gilland 1) Definitionally, USMAPS takes candidates who are unqualified.
2) USMA doesn't have to extend offers to USMAPS attendees. Therefore merit-based admissions, i.e. by WCS, still applies.
3) Unclear that "everyone who graduates the prep is ready to succeed" is true.
Good morning @s_w_gilland : the Class of 2030 football team had 48 members come through USMAPS. This shows that Sec War Hegseth's May 2025 guidance on exclusively merit-based admissions was not followed. Is that a correct interpretation?
A reader points out that a candidate's going to USMAPS definitionally means that the candidate is not qualified for admission to USMA.
48 of the 72 class of 2030 football players went to USMAPS.
Are we to believe that this was done IAW "merit-based admissions"? @SecWar
@DukeNuk98960711@SecWar happily, I just wrote a post answering that question in detail. here you go.
up to you to suggest consequences for disregarding Secretary-level guidance in chain of command.

Obviously West Point has completely ignored @SecWar 's admissions merit guidance. I dunno, it seems like obviously flaunting Secretary-level guidance should result in... something. More scrutiny? Public disclosure? Sanctions? Lose funding?
Well, it looks like West Point disregarded Secretary Hegseth's direction on merit-based admissions.
No way that 48 football players going through USMAPS complies with "exclusively merit-based admissions" guidance.
love to be shown to be wrong!

and I can say this confidently just looking at the Football lineup, proudly released by USMA & Football team. Who knows what's going on in the rest of the class.
Timeline:
May 9, 2025: SecWar Hegseth releases his guidance to use merit-based admissions to the Academies.
August '25: SFFA v West Point settles b/c SecWar memo
June 29, '26: USMA R-Days 72 football players, 48 of which attended USMAPs (i.e. to correct academic deficiencies), and none of whom are top national players.
Yeah, the numbers say that there were definitely non-merit-based (at least when you consider WCS the determinant of merit) football admissions. Did we do that again this year?
