Brexit for the hard of thinking:
1. As key members of the EU, we write the rules, including how 3rd countries are treated;
2. We decide we want to be one of those 3rd countries;
3. We moan like crazy at being treated as a 3rd country.
🤷

@SimonCalder I agree. It’s the market.
They aren’t a public service; they exist to make a profit.
You could argue that this practise subsidises flights at other times.
@sicockcroft1973@TheStephenRalph@ucyocho @julie_everrs @bobthe_dolphin @JG04782712 But the Cygnus exercise in 2016 was designed for just such an eventuality, and the man we paid to have our back had it all under control and planned for in January...
It seems a lot of American can't conceive why Canadians are not so eager to join the union.
I'll give you a few reasons:
- We love our country, just you like you love yours. Things can always be better, but this will always be our home and native land.
- The climate sucks, but we're used to it, and it can be quite beautiful at times. We have warm homes with warm people, winter sports, and lots of sunshine.
- None of my kids have had to do active shooter drills, unlike their cousins across the border. Our cities are the safest big cities in North America.
- There is no role for religion in politics. No one cares.
- We never have to worry about health insurance. Granted the system can be improved, but there are no co-pays, no monthly contributions, few worries.
- There's no corporate donations in politics, it was banned 20 years ago. Billionaires can't own the political system.
- The media (what's left of it) is not allowed to broadcast false or misleading news.
- There's no corrupt geriatric supreme court that can ruin your life. Here judges have mandatory retirement, and few Canadians can name even one of them.
- Abortion has been permitted for 35 years and is a non-issue politically
- There's no senate or electoral college that can keep unpopular parties in power.
- Higher education is good, cheap and accessible. Few are crushed by student debt like in America.
There's a million small things too, but overall, this will never stop being the most beautiful place in the world to me:
Wow! Must watch car crash interview with Nadine Dorries
Nadine Dorries, "I'm a victim of child sexual abuse as well, through the Church of England"
Victoria Derbyshire, "When did you realise you wanted another inquiry?"
ND, "When the call came for one"
VD, "From Elon Musk?"
ND, "I wasn't aware the problem was as widespread as it was... The inquiry was more further reaching than the grooming gangs.. A national inquiry on the grooming gangs and the people who knew"
VD, "So why didn't the Conservatives do that?"
ND, "That's a good question"
VD, "You were in government"
ND, "No, I was Culture Secretary, this didn't go anywhere near my desk"
VD, "You were sat around the cabinet table"
ND, "The entire time I was in cabinet this was never discussed"
VD, "Why?"
ND, "I.. I.."
VD, "Because there are a number of Conservatives who were in government who are calling for it now"
ND, "I can't answer the question.. A good person who can answer the question would be Suella Braverman and Priti Patel"
VD, "There's no record of you speaking in the parliamentary chamber about any of the local inquiries or ever calling for a national inquiry"
ND, "You don't have to stand up in the chamber and speak about something to support something.. I attended meetings in committee rooms"
VD, "Tomorrow the Conservatives are calling for another inquiry.. That's despite the Conservatives setting up that 7 year £200 million independent inquiry on child sexual abuse.. And then the Conservative government didn't implement any of the 20 recommendations.. Isn't calling for another one the very definition of political opportunism?"
ND, "Frequently inquiries take place and none of the recommendations are implemented"
VD, "The same people who didn't implement those recommendations calling for another inquiry, isn't that the definition of political opportunism?"
ND, "Its a definition of what we need to do to fix how government deals with inquiries"
VD, "You had 14 years to do that"
ND, "Dealing with recommendations made from people outside of Westminster, the people who put them in place are civil servants"
VD, "So it's the civil servants fault?"
ND, "No, what I'm saying your dealing with something outside of the normal processes so maybe it can't be delivered by government"
VD, "Well the Conservatives didn't deliver any of the 20 recommendations"
Narrator: Nadine Dorries blames the process for why the Conservatives didn't deliver, while Labour use the process to start delivering, make it make sense
When police first became aware of it.
When social services first became aware of it.
Why the initial investigation didn't go ahead.
Who made that decision.
Keir Starmer's involvement, both during his tenure at the CPS and his time as Prime Minister.
Why Jess Phillips is the last woman in England who can ever be accused of not caring about femicide and child abuse.
How many public inquiries there have been.
Who failed to implement the recommendations from either.
Why a further inquiry isn't helpful to the victims at this time.
Which political party has not only failed to implement the findings of any inquiry but also cut funding to police to the bone.
How many paedophile rings have been locked up since the initial case was reopened.
How many more pending cases are awaiting trial.
How many active investigations there are into both historic and current paedophile rings of most ethnicities and religion.
Why Tommy Robinson is in prison and what can be done to free him.
Why Ed Davies is absolutely the wrong person to be abusive to.
W̶h̶y̶ g̶e̶t̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶l̶y̶ w̶i̶t̶h̶ F̶a̶r̶a̶g̶e̶ w̶a̶s̶ a̶ m̶i̶s̶t̶a̶k̶e̶.
There's quite a lot else you don't yet know about, nor would it be reasonable to expect you to, because this is a situation that in some cases goes back to offences committed before you sold PayPal to eBay in 2002.
This government is seven months into their administration - it isn't reasonable to expect them to have fixed 14 years of Tory destruction.
The Trump administration won't have stopped one child going missing every 40 seconds in America in 7 months, nor will it have addressed the issue of child marriage being legal in 37 states.
Worth also mentioning, your comments about Jess Phillips are mild for America, here they put a target on her back and are a genuine risk to her personal safety.
My British grandmother, Cora Amelia Robinson, was an important part of my childhood. She was very strict, but also kind and I could always count on her.
She grew up very poor in England during the Great Depression only to be bombed in WW2. To earn money for food, she cleaned houses, leaving me with a lasting respect for those who do so.
My Nana was one of the poor working-class girls with no one to protect her who might have been abducted in present day Britain.
“There's a very good chance that Tommy Robinson will one day be the prime minister of England.”
Similarly, people in South Africa would have said you’d “lost your marbles” if you’d told them Nelson Mandela would become president, says Elon Musk’s father Errol Musk.
#TimesRadio
Andy Burnham calls out Trevor Phillips on inquiries into grooming gangs
"It's interesting you ask me that question because you don't know what I've already done.. There has been.. And is.. An ongoing major inquiry.. There has been a substantial report into what happened in Oldham.. As a result of that there is a major police investigation.. As result there have been multiple arrests, charges and convictions"
"That obviously seems to be lost on you.. Instead of facts, people are going straight to propaganda"
Laura Kuenssberg, "Elon Musk, a political pal of Donald Trump and Nigel Farage, attacking Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Labour government, over inaction over the grooming scandal"
Alan Johnson, "It's Orwellian.. In 1984, slavery is freedom, ignorance is strength.. We've had a public inquiry into grooming, it took 7 years, it cost £200 million"
"Why is the leader of the opposition Kemi Badenoch calling for a public inquiry when she was in cabinet when they made recommendations, none of which have been acted on"
"What Elon Musk is proving is having lots of money doesn't make you intelligent about world affairs"
@elonmusk Whilst it’s true that Farage ‘doesn’t have what it takes’ your tweet demonstrates a surprising lack of understanding of basic commerce. Reform is a COMPANY and Farage the principal shareholder. Its ‘members’ do not have a vote, and it’s hard to see the narcissist resigning.
@Rebartic I’m baffled as to why you think Boris Johnson, David Frost, Daniel Hannan, Lance Foreman and Crispin Blunt aren’t capable of rebutting the reasonable epitaph of ‘twat’.
And quite why you include my pointing out the acceptance of the term ‘berk’ but not c*nt I can only guess.
