JR East will begin replacing short-distance magnetic tickets with QR-code tickets from spring 2027. 🎫📱
The current magnetic tickets will be phased out, changing how passengers use ticket gates. Instead of inserting a small magnetic ticket into the gate, passengers will hold a QR-code ticket over the reader.
The ticket format will also get larger, changing from the current 30 × 57.5 mm small ticket to a 57.5 × 85 mm large ticket. The larger size is designed to make the QR code easier to scan at the gate.
The new QR tickets will remove the magnetic layer on the back, reducing the environmental burden during recycling after use. 🌿
The change is also part of a wider shift toward mobile, ticketless travel and more efficient station layouts, with ticket-vending-machine areas reorganized as stations are redesigned.
Me with insomnia, eating pork rinds over the sink at 2 AM: “there’s a Hey Arnold episode about this.”
My sleep paralysis demon: “that’s not what that episode’s about.”
Too many of this city’s extraordinary civic spaces have been closed off from the people they belong to. That's why I'm thrilled to open the cupola of the Dinkins Municipal Building for free public access to New Yorkers and visitors alike! Visit https://t.co/wtYhwRxSpA
I can’t wait to see what unfolds during the World Cup when Amtrak’s poorly maintained infrastructure completely disintegrates. Seemingly every day there’s a new disaster. NJ Transit is not ready.
1/3: Due to ongoing repair work from an earlier Amtrak overhead wire and infrastructure damage resulting from Friday’s, (5/29), Amtrak track fire in one of the Hudson River Tunnels, NJ TRANSIT rail service is subject to up to 30-minute delays into and out of Penn Station New York
The vehicle that “killed” here is not a bicycle or e-bike, doesn’t look like one, and is unambiguously illegal to ride everywhere in New York State, don’t come after e-bike riders for this
Been reflecting on this ever since reading it yesterday morning. The @BackwoodzHipHop connection is illuminating. Got me studying Camouflage and The Chalice in a new light.

My girlfriend’s new move is every time we get to the elevator and press the button, she remembers something and runs back to the apartment while I stand uselessly at the elevator door.
