@ThymeToBeBorn I think in most cases a grey divorce will inherently trouble the children. Who’s going to look after grandpa through his heart attack recovery when grandma is shacking up with some other guy?
With my first kid I felt the same way but actually, changing poopy diapers is really quite quick and easy compared to all the other stuff you have to do. EC is not easier and disposable diapers are much easier than cloth. It’s not about the laundry, that part is fine, but the most absorbent cloth diapers are easily outperformed by the cheapest disposables and you’ll have to change them way more often.
Tons of pregnant women get morning sickness but I've never seen another woman dry heave or throw up in public in the day time. Am I uniquely messy? How do these other moms manage
@0x49fa98 Intellectual people basically by definition value their own intelligence more than anything else. If they believed in racial differences in IQ it would instantly turn them extremely racist.
Definitely, this is pretty much everyone’s default response, I have been in a similar situation and reacted the same way. But next time, I’ve mentally prepared myself for the confrontation. If we develop a playbook of how to respond to these delusional owners in the moment and spread awareness, people may be able to handle it better the first time it happens to them.
@BillJam15852774@minordissent I agree with you, and I’d say that DEI is an effort by the threatened elite to decrease upward mobility of the truly capable. DEI hires will never advance further than they’re permitted to, and in that way it’s an effective scheme.
@sugarbeelatte There’s a type of person who will unload as much of their bad feelings onto you as they think you’ll accept. You probably give off the energy that you’ll graciously accept a lot…in this situation you did for sure
@n00rdung@IterIntellectus For what it's worth I felt strong in a masculine way when enduring my tattoos despite childbirth being obviously a lot more painful. Enduring something by your own choice vs by the force of nature feels very different.
@n00rdung@IterIntellectus Yeah I figured that would be an objection, I'm merely stating that it's painful and generally being able to tolerate pain is considered a masculine virtue. If you disagree with that generalization then the argument won't work.
@n00rdung@IterIntellectus It could be argued that the painful process of being tattooed makes the tattoo itself a signal of masculine strength and endurance
@ThymeToBeBorn I think an acceptable medical treatment would resolve the feeling of dysphoria directly, that is, it would be a mental health intervention. Other conditions where a person feels there is a physical problem where there isn't (such as Munchausen syndrome) are treated that way
@ThymeToBeBorn@EdwinaPJones I frequently ask myself what moments in my childhood stuck out as really great and really bad. The great things are usually some experience of adventure, and the bad was when I felt unseen and unloved. I optimize particularly for avoiding the bad, then increasing the great.
@ThymeToBeBorn@EdwinaPJones I don’t think this is too selfish at all. People often talk about gift wrap as if it’s very important to the child, I simply don’t think it is. I can’t recall ever being disappointed that a gift wasn’t wrapped. It’s more for the parents to enjoy their reaction.
@SlumRNA_Dog I wish people would stop using “blow their back out” as a euphemism for sex. It is so disgusting. It is somehow both vulgar and neutered. Bleh.
@TailsAndy @Mlu__N2 I don’t know why, but I find chopping vegetables up into small uniform pieces really difficult despite being an otherwise decent cook.
