From −48 °C in Alaska and Yukon to 45 °C heat in Australia, the planet is showing sharp contrasts at the same time.
Parts of Greenland recorded above-freezing temperatures with anomalies near +35 °C, while Arctic air is pushing deep into Europe and Asia, bringing the coldest days of the season in some regions. Meanwhile, North Africa and Egypt are seeing highs above 30 °C, and southern South America has just broken January heat records.
