@OperationalInc1@tayser82 A logical change with minimal signalling work would be to slew the ES lines from Kensington to join North Melbourne on the old MS lines, then the crossovers at Moonee Ponds Creek becomes the point back to 6 tracks. But Craigieburn is on the MS pair on the straight.
As for Alamein, shuttles all day would keep those trains out of Flinders Street, and with trains stopping all stations and only two tracks needed to Box Hill, trains could be routed through Camberwell to avoid all conflicts with the shuttles using the X line to Riversdale.
Recent shutdowns of the Mernda Line for LX works had Hurstbridge trains using one platform at Clifton Hill and Mernda trains terminating in the other. Why not do the same with the City Loop shutdown and have Hurstbridge trains terminate at Clifton Hill instead of Heidelberg.
Curiously trying to understand why Clifton Hill - Heidelberg and Camberwell - Alamein has trains replaced by buses during this two week city loop shutdown. Sure they need to reduce trains at Flinders Street, but why not run shuttles to Clifton Hill and on the Alamein line.
@aussiewongm@MAndrewWaugh@zoqaeski Interestingly in the UK the onboard timer for TPWS is different for freight to passenger trains. I think if we were to do similar, the number of OSS TPWS would cause havoc, so not sure we will see TPWS on freight anytime soon, maybe turned off if N classes end up on freight.
With new abutments and pier constructed on the south side, this bridge was jacked sideways for construction of the underground loop. Then a new single track bridge was placed on the north side on the old abutments and pier later on that provide the track to the underground.
@aussiewongm@AugustusBrown@AussieWirraway Used where you need a shorter sleeper, like next to pits and other tight places. Fairly common around the network. The other variation is sometimes to retain timber in tight spots.
This museum looking relay hut at Ferntree Gully, is most likely the oldest relay interlocking still in service in Victoria. While altered a few times in its history, this room dates from early 1957 when the line from Bayswater was duplicated.
@tayser82 Interesting to note this grade separation was driven by a very pro-active local council back in 2016, they wanted to open up the whole Croydon town centre and wanted Skyrail. Looks like they are getting what they wanted, plus more (Dublin and Bedford too)

BOX315 with the points saying left and the signal saying right. This is actually correct, as further up there is another crossover that brings the train to the centre (right) track.
@aussiewongm@fixedblock@railmaps Just a point of order, platform 8 is Metro Lease, interlocking and equipment, just V/Line trains use it for the majority of the time.
@MAndrewWaugh@aussiewongm This is a crossing just on the down side of the Midland Hwy crossing in Goornong. So there are also other gated occupation crossings that aren’t flangible gates or active.
Frangible gate crossing at Goornong, site of the level crossing accident earlier this week. There aren’t very many of this type of crossing in Victoria, maybe only 3?
@MAndrewWaugh It is worth noting that the gates have gate stops (can see one painted green in the bottom corner of one of the photos) and those gate stops are set up for the gate to swing both ways.
