@jasonfried@lennysan So much alpha in this episode, even in the first 6 mins.
It's a bit crazy that most of what's being said might be seen as contrarian vs. obvious.
This is the most exciting time to be alive.
It’s time to build. And for that… it’s time to learn - faster.
But, where to start? What to watch? Who to follow? When to stop and switch?
Even worse, the best content out there is either a video or a podcast. And learning from video is broken.
- Video isn’t built for learning; it’s built for engagement.
- The video information bitrate is actually very low… That’s why people speed up, skip, or scan the transcript first.
- And the existing UX is awful. Tiny scrollbars, constant pausing, rewinding, taking screenshots. And 100% guaranteed I’ll never find that key insight again. Was it minute 10 or 15?
If we can’t fix learning, we can’t progress as fast as we should. Learning should not be tedious and frustrating.
So, we decided to do something about it. We talked to other long-time “sufferers.” We found 8 key everyone ask about each video:
1. What should I watch? I don’t want to miss out on something important.
2. What are the key points in this video? And where are they located in the video?
3. Where should I dive deeper?
4. How can I answer a specific question? And can I trust the answer?
5. How do I bookmark a section?
6. How can I add my own notes?
7. Can I share my findings or my highlights?
8. What are other people highlighting?
Answering each question requires a different lens with a higher and higher resolution. Combining all these lenses elegantly requires a radically different UX than the tiny scrollbar.
We started answering questions 2, 4, and 5. And we’re pretty happy with the results.
We’ve been trying hard to work under the radar, but word got out. Now 160,000+ students, researchers and professionals are using this live.
This week we’re about to add some extra sparkle. So what you’re seeing today, will look different by the end of the week. For al the FOMO folks out there, you don’t want to miss out on this :)
Our mission? Reduce the time to insight and change the way we learn from video.
It’s time to learn. And for us, it’s time to build :)

This is the most exciting time to be alive.
Yesterday’s highlights alone were:
- Watching a 250-tonne rocket landing on the dot. New wallpaper, sorted.
- My 85-year-old father having a long exchange with ChatGPT about his health… The sense of wonder… priceless.
- Watching the @lexfridman pod with the @cursor_ai team. Clear, sharp, first-principles thinking.
My reaction to all this is? FOMO.
I don’t want to miss out on building even a tiny part of a better world.
It’s time to build. And for that… it’s time to learn - faster.
My biggest problem with this: information overload. Where to start? What to watch? Who to follow? When to stop and switch?

Together with a friend we started to look deeper into this problem. We talked to other long-time “sufferers.” We found 8 key everyone ask about each video:

On - and one last thing. We called this Video Highlight @vid_highlight
Our mission? Reduce the time to insight and change the way we learn from video.
It’s time to learn. And for us, it’s time to build :)
PS
Thank you @0xluffy for the image!
Alright, we have to admit, we're a bit in love with @Google's Audio Overview feature... 🎧. Inspired by @stevenbjohnson and @karpathy, we decided to let it review our progress. It's quite meta to have an AI reviewing another AI. 🤯
It's likely the marketing use cases will be stronger than the learning / education ones.
In fact, this might just be how we publish our product updates from now on. Stay tuned!
