I actually love this interpretation. The movie gives Bear multiple chances to take responsibility, and every time he chooses self-pity over accountability. The “cancel your wish” question feels less like a magical loophole and more like a final test of his character and he failed it the moment he made Nikki’s suffering about himself instead of what he’d done to her.
