I got into a long debate fall '21 about who was more detrimental to Dems between Manchin and Sinema. Manchin pulling shit like this to *maybe* marginally increase his Herculean odds of winning—rather than Sinema burning up all her political capital for lobbyists—is why I said him
.@timkaine (possibly the most mild-mannered member of the Senate) is beyond furious at the inclusion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline in debt limit bill, a provision pushed by the White House (and could clearly help Manchin reelect).
Says he was blindsided by the administration:
Instead, she's her usual arrogant smarmy self that asserts she's not only right but even talking about gun control is hypocritical. Megyn Kelly is like Ben Shapiro in that listening to them, you'd think they're smart until you actually look at what they're saying
Megyn says gun control is unrealistic and then proposes increased funding for mental health and red flag laws. How anyone can say she's both serious and politically savvy is actually fucking hilarious. If she was half as smart as she thinks she is, she knows R's won't do either
Mental health interventions (smthg real, not the BS we now do), greater willingness to lock ppl up (w/protocols in place for civil libs) who are deemed to be threats, fortification of soft targets, coordination of media response to not lionize shooters, etc.
This is.. unsurprising? Why the GOP would pass up on forcing out the head of one of the most influential opposition caucuses and senior leaders unless they cut a deal to let Clyburn ride out the next 4-6 years. Short-term (and unspeakably selfish) win for Jim, long-term win GOP
NEW: A story about Jim Clyburn, one of the most powerful Dems in the country
-He secretly worked with the S.C. GOP on redistricting
-He protected himself
-The cost? Making a swing district safer for the GOP

Happy Saturday to everyone except for the sad centrist wonks who spent two years pushing the line that student debt relief was a giveaway to “the rich.”
Nikki Haley clearing the way just to run yet another doomed campaign is pretty fitting considering the Republicans she attracts also believe their value is a lot higher than it actually is and that they're not appreciated enough by everyone else
Ugh was stuck in drafts 🫠

As if yesterday's vote— to not proceed despite inevitable passage— wasn't enough, Toomey decided to disgrace himself *again* once more before slithering out of DC to his next conference appearance. Absolutely shameless that this is one of the few promises he's willing to honor
What'll get somewhat lost tonight if trends in WI and FL hold is the difference in the strength of the state party. FL Dems are a dumpster fire which is well established but WI Dems, who are incredible, have been doing equally impressive work, enough to possibly push Barnes over
The NFL needs to do something about refs who cherry pick when to call delay of game because too many like to sit back and watch Rodgers than actually do their jobs
Perspective: “If you’re surprised by the attack on Pelosi’s husband, or the right-wing smirking about it, you haven’t been paying attention,” Monica Hesse writes.

The thing with this is the new anti-war left is almost, if not completely, isolationist and the "patriotic" right has moved comfortably into nationalism. Foreign policy, then, only is important when it either provides a win to their candidates or can be used to undermine another
