மேகதாது அணை கட்டப்பட்டிருந்தால், கபினியிலிருந்து இப்போது வரும் தண்ணீரும் கிடைத்திருக்காது: புதிய அணையை தமிழகம் தடுத்து நிறுத்தியே தீர வேண்டும்!

கர்நாடகத்தில் கபினி அணை நிரம்பியதால் தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு காவிரியியில் நேற்று வினாடிக்கு 25 ஆயிரம் கன அடி நீர் திறந்து விடப்பட்ட நிலையில், இன்று காலை வினாடிக்கு 10 ஆயிரமாக குறைக்கப்பட்டு விட்டது. பின்னர் நீர்வரத்து வினாடிக்கு 28,009 கன அடியாக அதிகரித்ததைத் தொடர்ந்து நீர் திறப்பு வினாடிக்கு 14,958 கன அடியாக அதிகரிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. தமிழ்நாட்டிற்கு சட்டப்படியாக வழங்கப்பட வேண்டிய நீரை வழங்க கர்நாடக அரசு தயாராக இல்லை என்பதையும், உபரிநீரை திறந்து விடும் வெள்ள வடிகாலாக மட்டுமே தமிழகத்தின் காவிரியை பயன்படுத்துகிறது என்பதையுமே இது காட்டுகிறது.

கர்நாடகத்தில் உள்ள அணைகளில் இன்று காலை நிலவரப்படி 74.05 டி.எம்.சி தண்ணீர் உள்ளது. இது அங்குள்ள 4 அணைகளின் மொத்தக் கொள்ளளவான 114.57 டி.எம்.சியில் 64% ஆகும். கபினி அணையில் 94%, ஹாரங்கி அணையில் 92%, ஹேமாவதி அணையில் 73%, கிருஷ்ணராஜசாகர் அணையில் 42% நீர் உள்ளது. ஜூலை மாத இறுதி வரை தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு கர்நாடகம் 40 டி.எம்.சி தண்ணீர் வழங்க வேண்டியுள்ள நிலையில், தமிழகத்திற்கு சட்டப்படியும், நியாயப்படியும் தண்ணீர் வழங்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணம் இருந்திருந்தால் கிருஷ்ணராஜ சாகர் தவிர மீதமுள்ள 3 அணைகளில் இருந்தும் தமிழகத்திற்கு கர்நாடகம் தண்ணீரை திறந்து விட்டிருக்கலாம்.

ஆனால், கபினி அணை நிரம்பிய நிலையில் அதன் உபரி நீரை எங்கும் தேக்கி வைக்க முடியாது என்பதால் தான் வேறு வழியின்றி காவிரியில் திறந்து விட்டிருக்கிறது. ஹாரங்கி அணை நிரம்பி விட்ட நிலையில், அந்த அணைக்கு 10430 கன அடி நீர் வரும் நிலையில், அதைவிட அதிகமாக14470 கன அடி நீரை திறந்து விட்டு கிருஷ்ணராஜசாகர் அணையில் சேமித்து வைக்கிறது. ஹேமாவதி அணை இன்னும் ஒரு வாரத்தில் நிரம்பி விடும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்படும் நிலையில், அதன் பின் அதன் உபரி நீரையும் கிருஷ்ணராஜசாகர் அணையில் தான் சேமித்து வைக்கும். தமிழகத்திற்கு தண்ணீர் தரக்கூடாது என்ற கர்நாடகத்தின் நிலைப்பாட்டையே இது காட்டுகிறது.

கர்நாடக அரசால் புதிதாக கட்ட உத்தேசிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள மேகதாது அணை மேற்கண்ட 4 அணைகளுக்கும் கீழாக, தமிழக எல்லைக்கு அருகில் அமையும். அந்த அணை மட்டும் கட்டப்பட்டிருந்தால் கபினி அணையிலிருந்து திறக்கப்பட்டுள்ள தண்ணீரும் கூட தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு கிடைக்காது. ஹாரங்கி, ஹேமாவதி அணைகளில் இருந்து திறக்கப்பட்டு, கிருஷ்ணராஜ சாகர் அணை வழியாக காவிரியில் விடப்படும் தண்ணீரும் கூட மேகதாது அணையில் தடுக்கப்பட்டு விடும். மேகதாது அணையும் நிரம்பி தமிழ்நாட்டுக்கு தண்ணீர் கிடைப்பது என்பது எட்டாவது அதிசயமாகவும், குதிரைக் கொம்பாகவும் தான் இருக்கும். அதனால் தான் மேகதாது அணையை கட்ட அனுமதிக்கக் கூடாது என்று கடந்த 15 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக பாட்டாளி மக்கள் கட்சி வலியுறுத்தி வருகிறது.

எனவே, மேகதாது அணை விவகாரத்தில் தவறான நிலைப்பாடுகளை எடுத்து கர்நாடக அரசின் சதிகளுக்கும், சூழ்ச்சிகளுக்கும் தமிழக அரசு இரையாகி விடக் கூடாது. மேகதாது அணையை கட்ட அனுமதிக்கக் கூடாது என்பதில் உறுதியாக இருக்க வேண்டும். அனைத்து அரசியல் கட்சிகள், வேளாண் அமைப்புகள் ஆகியவற்றின் கருத்துகளை அறிந்து தெளிவான செயல்திட்டத்தை உருவாக்க வேண்டும் என்று வலியுறுத்துகிறேன். @CMOTamilnadu

Whatever is unfolding and whatever developments are taking place in Tamil Nadu, one cannot brush off the efforts of Naam Tamilar Katchi in this election or in any of the past elections they have contested. Their commitment to getting on the ground and fighting for people’s issues, their stance against alliance politics, and their insistence on equal representation for women in elections are things most parties would not even dare to attempt.

Especially in the 2026 elections, though they did not emerge victorious in any of the constituencies, the all over state vigorous campaigns led by Seeman himself, along with every cadre of the party going door to door and leaving no stone unturned, stand as a testament to their commitment to public engagement.

The party members says ‘This is only a temporary setback, and they will bounce back stronger, as they have always done.

Needless to say, as in past years, no matter who the ruling party is or who the principal opposition may be, the party and its cadres will continue to stay on the ground, raise their voices, and ensuring that public issues are consistently brought to light.

Kerala’s waste-laden trucks & overloaded mineral lorries were blocked by NTK cadres in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari districts, even though police cases were registered against them..Over the past 5 years, they consistently worked with local people, taking their grievances to Tirunelveli & Tenkasi collectors through petitions. During my field visits, I hv often seen them step in to help me connect with locals. In one such visit, their involvement and my story eventually led to the Tirunelveli administration shutting down a quarry in Kavalkinaru. Their RTI efforts have also helped journalists in Tirunelveli report on a range of issues. They stood with victims of alleged police excesses & organised protests. The recent dip in their vote share may just be temporary....i hope they will re-emerge.

A final-year law student, Rishi Kumar from Tamil Nadu National Law University, refuses to delete his blog criticising the Supreme Court… despite pressure from his own university.

Why?

Because the administration allegedly received calls from advocates, judges, and others claiming the post harms the institution’s “reputation.”

The blog titled “The Supreme Court of India Has No Spine” questioned the court’s decision to ban an NCERT textbook chapter on judicial corruption.

But here’s the real issue:
A law student is being told to silence himself… for expressing a legal opinion.

His response?

Clear and powerful:
“My opinions are mine… you do not own my voice or my conscience.”

He even said he’s ready to face disciplinary action rather than back down.

This isn’t just about one blog.

This is about academic freedom vs institutional pressure.

If law students… the future of the judiciary are discouraged from questioning the system,
then who exactly is allowed to question it?

Criticism of institutions ≠ disrespect.
Silencing criticism = weakening democracy.

The whole series, despite being a one sided affair, seemed like a proper celebration of the game.

The broadcasting was top notch. Better angles, insightful analysis, and no cringeworthy fan boying over star players.

I guess it all eventually boils down to whether you want to build a sporting culture or just mint revenue while pretending to care about the game.

N Kumaresan (25) was an autorickshaw driver. Sub-Inspector Chandrasekar came to his stand, snatched his cellphone, and asked him to come to the police station for an inquiry before leaving for the station.
//So, the Complainant’s (Navaneethakrishnan) son Kumaresan went to the police station on 10.05.2020 and the 1st Respondent (Chandrasekar) took him to a separate cell and he assaulted him indiscriminately by lathi and the 2nd Respondent (Constable Kumar) also assaulted him by hands. Then the 1st Respondent forced him to sit in squat position sitting and the 1st Respondent kicked on his chest and penis by booted legs. When he cried unable to bear the pain, the 1st Respondent was standing on his right thigh and the 2nd Respondent was standing on his left thigh and he felt severe pain in his thigh and penis. Then both the Respondents assaulted him on his back and the 1st Respondent assaulted on his back by lathi. Later he was sent out and threatened him that if he told anything to anyone he will foist false cases against him and he will assault his father also//

While the complainant claimed the inquiry on his son was about a land dispute, the police claimed it was a coconut theft case.
