“When India crossed $1 trillion economy in 2007-08, oil spent was more than $100 billion line item. It was 10% of GDP.”
“Last year, India was a $4.3 trillion economy and oil spent was $170 Billion. So it was 3-4% of GDP.”
“So, Oil is not going break the country as much as it did in 2007, but in our mind we think last time oil crossed $100, this is what happened.”
“Somehow in our mind we don’t give proportionate importance to that.”
- G. Maran (Co-Founder and Executive Director of Unifi Capital)
“The beauty of it is that knowledge is cumulative. And even what you're learning about Company A will help your thinking about Company B.”

Just six years after the space sector was liberalised, India achieves private orbital launch capability.
Tells you that often the binding constraint is our regulations - they kill enterprise or drive them away from India.

Founder's life is hard!
My home loan application got rejected by a top private bank - just because I am a founder.
> 25 years+ of customer
> ~800 CIBIL Score
> 5x-6x of loan value in relationship with this bank
> may be in top 0.1% of its customers by assets
> and irony is this bank felicitated me as top fintech innovator or something like that.. 😛
They can give loan to team members our company employs, but not me - because as founder I'm high risk category.
Damn... lagta hai office mein hi rehna padega zindagi bhar... 🫤😭
Something I told 14 yo: People are going to stop reading books. I wish this wasn't so, but I fear it is. The silver lining in this cloud is that if you're one of the few people who still read, you'll have a huge advantage over everyone else.

Solar panels will cover 280 square miles of salt desert near the border with Pakistan by 2029. The Khavda solar park will be the world’s largest, with a 30 gigawatt (GW) capacity (enough to power Austria). India’s installed solar capacity has been growing by 40% a year.
Solar panels are increasingly manufactured in India, with solar module manufacturing capacity up 200% since 2024. More than $1.2 billion worth of solar panels were exported last year.
India intends to be the first major country to power its industrialization predominantly with solar energy.

Prashant Jain on IT and diversification
On IT: The long term is known less, and the short term is known more. The impact of AI on IT over a 5-year horizon is difficult to assess. In the near term, however, I do not expect much change, as enterprise technology adoption tends to be slow. In that context, the IT sector offers a reasonable risk-reward.
On diversification: Diversification is humility applied to uncertainty. We are dealing with a world we do not fully understand, especially as technology keeps changing the way businesses evolve.
There are no permanent views , views change with the facts , or the price available , keeping sector baggage or bias because of some random reasons will keep you from expanding circle of competence and also create mental blockades from participating in themes !
Be agile , have the ability to change when facts change and also the ability to do nothing and avoid stocks if they do not fit the equation !
Use the edge of the individual investor

El Niño doesn't hit crops first. It hits the banks that lent to them.
A 64% rainfall deficit in early June 2026 is already forcing water cuts. Agri-credit growth will slow, and asset quality goes with it.
The catch is concentration: RRBs run 62% of their book in agri loans, SFBs 23%. PSBs own 61% of the market by share. The rains decide who restructures.
after close to four years at @openai, i moved from the bay area to india earlier this year. i still believe deeply in ensuring true superintelligence accelerates science and remains accessible and beneficial to all. having grown up here, i've also always felt deeply connected to the ecosystem here.
over the past several weeks, i've been speaking with researchers, engineers, and thinkers across india and apac. it's become clear that there are many who want to build the future from here. moving back felt like the counterintuitive choice. i no longer think that's true.
what's been missing is the belief that you can build institutions of global consequence from anywhere. and more importantly, the ambition and the will to pursue ideas that seem impossibly large at first. this may be a once in a generation opportunity.
more to come soon. DMs open if this resonates.
The $10-$15 trillion total addressable market for AI, if it is successful, is actually "terrifying".
- The famous "Dean of Valuation", Professor Aswath Damodaran, of NYU Stern School of Business.
The reason: AI as a tool is a much smaller market; AI as a replacement for human-jobs is where the giant market story comes from.
"The best-case scenario for AI, that $10 to $15 trillion market, will happen if ONLY it replaces people.
If AI is a tool, it’s going to be a much smaller market than if AI replaces people. So, the stories we’re telling about $10, $20 or $25 trillion markets are actually terrifying stories for the rest of the world.
Why? Because if that story comes true, half of all white-collar people are going to lose their jobs. And what are they going to do instead? Who’s going to come up with the income to buy the products and services?
If AI works as well as it’s supposed to and replaces people, how do we deal with that as a society? Because people lose their jobs. Not only do you lose your income, you lose your life’s meaning.."
