The cosmic arc is toward enhancement & refinement of connection. Biologically, that is often in tension with survival. Those in power, when faced with a threat, will choose survival by any means, including killing the rest of us.

Power, in human life, can be exercised in one of two ways: through refined connection, or brutal control. The former is sophisticated, the latter, a primitive survival-drive. That distinction is explained in my book, The Unifying Primal Principle.
