MHA is replacing IPC with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sec 377 IPC penalises sexual abuse of animals since 1860. There is no equivalent provision under BNS to protect animals from sexual abuse. If BNS is passed in its current form sexual abuse of animals will be decriminalised.
