@gregisenberg I am astounded by how little attention is given to the constraint of critical commodities enabling this shift! I am a huge fan of the general momentum and possibilities yet I feel too few people are looking at this choke point! What’s your take @gregisenberg
@anandc Hi Anand, incredibly interested about Crescendo. Wrote a thesis on AI in PE, that was published in PEI magazine. Previously worked at a 5bn PE and at Evercore. I’ll be in SF next week & would be eager to chat over a coffee on M&A and GTM. (Cant chat to you directly on X)
@gregisenberg i'd specifically add commodities, recycling givent he demand in critical metals for the AI buildout, either as standalone or as sub of 8 or 11.
Where does a new investment thesis in private equity actually come from?
Almost never from a clean sheet.
So I mapped the buyout funds winning PE awards (Real Deals, HEC and others), approx. 150 funds and 1,000 portfolio companies, by sector and geography.
Within ten seconds you see which niches are crowded, and which work in one country while nobody has copied them in the next.

@HealthcareREguy True, however, few platforms have exited successfully. Many have been moved to continuation funds as few have actually created value apart from multiple arbitrage. The IRRs I have seen from most big funds were rather poor. Still great micro/small cap opportunity
@tkexpress11 Strong headline, what confuses me is that in saying AI roll ups (roll ups typically a PE type thing), acquire mature freight forwarding companies, which again has more of a PE angle to it than a VC angle? I see a convergence, believe entrepreneurial capital is the solution
@TheIcahnist This would argue European small caps will do a lot of buy and build to create these platforms to be then sold onto the Apollos of this world. Though when I look at the small cap space it already seems incredibly crowded? Any takes on Africa?
@WilliamGreen72 How would he position himself as a recent graduate, to play his strengths and be inline with the larger economic and geographical trends? What is his framework, approach in that regard. Many thanks @WilliamGreen72!
