Letting a decent-sized profit turn into a loss is what I call the Trading Cardinal Sin. You’re not compounding money—you’re compounding mistakes. Letting winners turn into losers is forcing yourself to make that money all over again. You’re self-creating a mountain to climb. This is one if the worst mistakes; makes my list of top 5.
#TradingView has started charging for REAL-TIME data.
But if you’re a swing trader, you may not need it.
We can use the 15-min delayed data on TradingView to identify Darvas Box setups and then take execution decisions using any platform where we have real-time prices.
In fact, this can work in our favour. 👇
Less screen-watching.
Less noise.
Less FOMO.
More patience.
More discipline.
Swing trading is not about catching every tick. It’s about catching the right move.
So, if you’re a swing trader following a defined system, don’t subscribe to real-time data just because you feel you need to watch every candle.
Let the market come to you.

Strong breakouts often begin with quiet price action. 📈
One of the most powerful concepts in technical analysis is the Volume Contraction Pattern (VCP).
Instead of chasing a stock after a huge move, traders can look for a period where:
🟢 Price volatility gradually contracts
🟢 Pullbacks become smaller
🟢 Selling pressure decreases
🟢 Volume dries up during contractions
🟢 Price holds near the upper part of the base
🟢 A breakout occurs with strong volume
My VCP checklist before considering a breakout:
✅ Clear prior uptrend
✅ Proper consolidation/base
✅ 2–4 successive contractions
✅ Each pullback smaller than the previous one
✅ Volume contracts as the pattern develops
✅ Price stays near the pivot/resistance area
✅ Breakout above resistance with volume expansion
🚫 Avoid forcing a VCP trade when:
❌ The contractions are getting larger
❌ Volume remains heavy during pullbacks
❌ Price breaks down from the base
❌ There is no clear resistance/pivot
❌ Breakout happens without meaningful volume expansion
📌 Remember:
Contraction shows reduced volatility.
Drying volume can indicate reduced selling pressure.
Volume expansion helps validate the breakout.
The goal isn't to predict every breakout.
The goal is to recognize when price structure, volatility and volume are coming together.
💬 Question for traders:
What do you focus on most when identifying a VCP?
1️⃣ Price contractions
2️⃣ Volume contraction
3️⃣ Breakout volume
4️⃣ All three

Volatility Contraction Scanner - Nifty 500
The idea is simple: price moves in cycles of expansion and contraction. Before a stock makes a real move, its daily range usually gets tighter and tighter; buyers and sellers reaching an agreement, volatility coiling up. That compression is what this scan hunts for.
What it checks, every day:
→ Day-3 range (High - Low) ≥ Day-2 range
→ Day-2 range ≥ Day-1 range
→ Day-1 range ≥ today's range
Three consecutive contractions. Each day's candle narrower than the one before it.
Two filters on top:
→ Close above ₹50 - keeps out the penny noise
→ Volume above its 20-day average- the coil is still being traded, not forgotten
Universe is Nifty 500, so you're only looking at names with real liquidity behind them.
What you do with the output is the actual edge. The scan gives you a watchlist, not a trade. Most people mark the high and low of the tightest candle and wait for a close outside it, with the opposite end as the stop.
Contraction tells you a move is loading - it doesn't tell you which way.
