@DaveWilderwein Yes, the rivers flow into the central lake, but they drain westward into an unseen sea. The animals are the coats of arms of the duchy's baronies.
New update on my map. You may notice several things, like such as the lake being full of stars, or the entire territory being framed to the east of the Sun and to the west of the Moon, which reminds us of a fairy tale landscape.
I'm working in a new version of this map. I'm missing some details, like roads, cities, towns, villages and castles, but I think I like the overall layout of the elements.

@drnk2nd Everyone uses eagles or lions in their heraldry; they are the animals that represent royal authority. What do you want to use, a boar, a bull, a dragon, a hippogriff? That's tacky, man.
@drnk2nd Well, almost. The Czechs and Moravians allied themselves with the Carolingian Empire against the Avar Khaganate, and they converted to Christianity very quickly; they are among the Slavs who adopted Christianity most rapidly.
I don't know what's the shield meaning, thoug.
What would be a good name for this region?
For me, it's the Umber Vale, a wild region full of beasts, monsters, and witches, where small communities of stern farmers and lumberjacks survive in the central clearing, which they have cleared for centuries through stubbornness and hard work, and which they keep relatively safe.
