Thanks to #StopKillerRobots campaigners for their work!
Great news for humanity!! We are so grateful to the African governments we have worked with up to this point! Itโs high time for states to come up with a legally binding instrument. It is overdue and desperately needed

We thank the Kingdom of Lesotho for representing the SADC region by voicing concerns about AWS. We call upon other @SADC_News states to do the same and vote for the Resolution this week and safeguard our regional security! @BanKillerRobots@Disarm1Dialogue
The Draft Resolution tabled by @AustriaUN and Co is a fundamental step in the right direction for the regulation of autonomous weapons systems, especially for states in the Global South. It calls for the discussions on AWS to "reflect the full range of views" of all member states
The autonomous targeting of humans by machines is a moral line that we must not cross.
Together with @ICRCPresident, I call on world leaders to launch negotiations of a new legally binding instrument on autonomous weapon systems & conclude them by 2026.

The UN Secretary General @UN and the President of the ICRC @ICRC have called for the establishment of international rules to govern autonomous weapons systems. It is essential for African states to participate as โsetting clear international red lines will benefit all States.โ
