The average time for an Indian origin H1B to get green card is about 15 years. Which usually means atleast 6 to 20 H1B renewals during this period. There are several people still on H1B awaiting green card for past 22 years. People still choose to be here as they respect the country and want to contribute here for greater success.

The H-1B lottery for fiscal year (FY) 2024 received 780,884 total registrations, with 758,994 eligible registrations: 

* Total registrations: 780,884
* Eligible registrations: 758,994
The difference between the total and eligible registrations is due to: Duplicate registrations, Failed payments, and Registrations deleted by employers before the registration period closed. 

The H-1B cap for FY 2024 was reached on December 13, 2023. The annual statutory cap is 65,000 visas, plus an additional 20,000 visas for foreign professionals who graduate with a master's degree or doctorate from a U.S. institution. 

USCIS selects more than 85,000 registrations to account for: 

* Candidates who end up not filing H-1B petitions
* Anticipated denials of H-1B petitions

The selection rate for FY 2024 was approximately 24.8%. The increase in the number of registrations from FY 2023 suggests that competition for H-1B visas will be more intense for the 2024-25 cycle
