More people should know what Prof. Vasi has done for semiconductor research in India.
He was the first semiconductor device researcher at IIT Bombay, built the nanofab here from the ground-up including a successful 3 micron NMOS process in the 1980s!
Not many know this. There was a time India exported copper, today we are IMPORTING it.
Take Sterlite Tamil Nadu.
-> The plant once contributed nearly 40% of India’s copper production, generated around ₹5,000 crore annually & supported 40,000+ livelihoods directly & indirectly.
After the shutdown, imports surged while local workers and ancillary businesses suffered silently.

National Quantum Mission achieves 1,000-km secure communication milestone
India has successfully demonstrated a 1,000-km secure quantum communication network, which is one of the longest in the world.
This achievement comes less than two years after the mission's launch in October 2024, far outpacing the original timeline to reach 2,000 km in eight years......
