It must be part of our evolutionary programming. We found comfort and safety going hunting as part of a tribe, having physical and emotional support from other members of our pack.

In investing, this comfort comes at a significant cost.

You feel lonely when you sell and the stock goes higher. You feel lonely holding cash while the market keeps marching. The right decisions usually come with a certain amount of discomfort, and for good reason: you are making them against the grain.

The tribe kept our ancestors alive. In markets it quietly bankrupts us. I still haven't figured out how to override wiring that old, except to notice when the comfort of agreeing with everyone is exactly the signal to stop.
