Ontario Update:
1) Every major teachers' union is about to go on strike
2) Ford is spending $48 million of your $ on ripping up bike lanes
3) Ontario has biggest deficit in its history and smallest funding per person on education and healthcare
4) The new subway line is billions over budget
Tell us again about Conservatives fiscal responsibility?
No government should have sweeping power to decide when workers can exercise their fundamental right to strike. I call on @MarkJCarney to respect workers’ rights and amend Bill C-39. #canlab#cdnpoli https://t.co/Q0DZHQnMzc
@HPhysicsteacher@PaulCalandra@DebbieKasman We also need to rethink elementary report cards. Massive amount of work which is unpaid labour, no drop down menus, can be shortened and still effective in communication, it’s elementary school - prioritize what we’re communicating.
@HPhysicsteacher@Teachers__Unite Very good points. Thank you. There were many years where the increase was only 1% per year (apart from arbitration) which is insignificant, doesn’t meet cost of living increases and doesn’t replace lost wages during a strike - teachers were at a loss. Hoping for better this time.
Former Canada Prime Minister Jean Chrétien: "I have message for American friends...never mistake our generosity for weakness. Never mistake our tolerance for lack of determination. And never, never mistake our kindness for softness...We bow to no one."
Jean Chrétien just gave the Trump administration the Shawinigan Handshake without laying a finger on anyone.
91 years old. Still sharper than half the people in the room.
While they’re trying to rename a 400-year-old lake “Lake America,” the former Prime Minister looked straight at the camera and said they’re doing it because they’ve run out of arguments.
Cheap. Nasty. Weak.
That’s not strategy. That’s a tantrum.
Canada doesn’t need to yell. We just need one old guy from Shawinigan to quietly remind them:
Lake Ontario isn’t suffering.
It’s a lake.
And neither are we.
Still standing.
Still Canadian.
Still Lake Ontario.

🚩 RED FLAGS.
Doug Ford himself talked about seeing teachers at Dollarama buying classroom supplies out of their own pockets.
So why did his government turn around and lock teachers’ new $750 classroom fund into ONE vendor American-owned Staples?
Why Staples? Why not give teachers the freedom to shop Canadian and stretch that $750 as far as possible?
Who bid? What were the bids? What criteria were used? Why was Staples selected?
“The Conservative playbook: underfund the system, privatize the solution”
Great article by @ElemTeachersTO President Nigel Barriffe. #onpoli#onted

Our taxpayer dollars are being spent at an American company (in the middle of a trade war) that offers better deals to folks walking in off the street than to teachers ordering through the Ontario Ministry of Education portal. Make it make sense!!! #OntEd
The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
Imagine a government boasting that nurses will finally receive $750 to buy hospital supplies, or police officers an allowance for essential equipment.
It would be an admission of systemic failure.
But when it’s teachers, chronic underfunding gets rebranded as generosity #onted
Trump is coming for Ontario jobs and Doug Ford just handed him our classroom supply money. Every teacher's $750, locked into an American-owned chain, every single year, while Canadian businesses get shut out. Enough. Tell Ford: CANCEL THE STAPLES DEAL.
