@taclements@dieworkwear Take it to a dress maker and get them to recreate it for you. Ed Martin has done this before with a deadstock workwear jacket that was the perfect fit.
@MattColeWorks@tom_swing@geoplace I would say, as someone who marked over 100 papers last semester, if you can do it stood up, then do so. I don’t know why, but I can’t help but hunch and contort myself when marking. It kills my back and then I get RSI
@NickyStubbs2 @jordanbpeterson UoM. Next week and the week after (assuming strikes will be called off). As a colleague who informed my thinking in this, you can audit the lectures. I would actually love you in on this one. Trigger warning: we will be talking about the ‘white working class’ as actual people.
@NickyStubbs2 @jordanbpeterson You should come to my double header. ‘Class, Space & Place’. Followed up with ‘The Class Politics of Brexit’. Gloves off.
@NickyStubbs2 @DrJoGrady@ucu I was thinking exactly that. Feedback = “You claim in this essay to prioritise 4 things. Aside from this being a bit of a contradiction in itself, your essay fails to satisfactorily address 3 of these 4 priorities. Please don’t use the word ‘massive’ in an essay again - 52”.
@RFMacDonald Rob, you’re right, but will we see that? ‘Prioritising’ 4 things and claiming less than 4 as a victory is contradictory. We must try really hard not to granulate the workforce. Many see pensions as just a boomer issue (obvs lots behind that).
@WoodinRivers@ucu Already we see entry level jobs demanding pubs and outputs that are nearly unachievable for PGs who, for many reasons, can’t spend 18hrs a day working on their stuff. Intensification + casualisation = competitive individualism.
@WoodinRivers@ucu Don’t get me wrong, it’s is a win. The way you’ve framed it is spot on. Precarity is a disciplinary function. What are we gonna do to stop Unis, especially RGs, flexing this ‘cos people do WANT to work there?
@dyfrig@ucu Hi mate, yeah I get that, and I’ve read the transcript. I also see movement in other institutions. I’m just apprehensive about ‘we’ll sort this out later’. I, like many others, am just a bit weary.
@acecoupe @ucu Exactly! McDonald’s offered all their employees the opportunity to come off ZHC. Guess what, majority didn’t take it. Probably because of how it was ‘offered’ to them. Scenario for us is more likely PHDs won’t teach (as much) and Unis will just have loads more fixed term emps.
@Des_Fitzgerald@eddieroscoe Depends how deep you wanna take it, I suppose? It’s like Hi-Fi, or road cycling, there’s an endless procession of upgrades. A better grinder will provide more consistency. I’ve got a shitty grinder and I find that one or two out of five brews are not great.
