When the Spanish Civil War broke out in 1936, revolutionary mobs stormed churches & persecuted the faithful.
One of the first things they did?
They opened fire on a statue of Jesus Christ.
Why? Because it was a war against God.

Gregorian Masses are thirty Masses offered on thirty consecutive days for the same deceased person, in order to obtain the deliverance of that soul from purgatory through the dispensation of God’s infinite mercy.
Having Gregorian Masses offered for a deceased person is an act of faith and confidence in the infinite power of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with respect to the soul undergoing purgation.
Church Law dictates that Gregorian Masses must fulfill the following conditions:
(1) They must be offered only for one who is deceased;
(2) They must be offered for one deceased person only.
Gregorian Masses take their name from Saint Gregory the Great, who was sovereign Pontiff from 590 to 604. St. Gregory the Great contributed to the spread of the pious practice of having these Masses celebrated for the deliverance of the souls from purgatory. In his Dialogues, he tells us that he had Masses on thirty consecutive days offered for the repose of the soul of Justus, a monk who had died in the convent of St. Andrew in Rome. At the end of the thirtieth Mass, the deceased appeared to one of his fellow monks and announced that he had been delivered from Purgatory.

You're a 19 year old kid.
You are critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam .
Its November 14, 1965 . LZ (landing zone) X-ray.
Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in.
You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.
Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.
As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.
You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.
Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.
Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board.
Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!!
Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.
He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.
Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Army, died at the age of 81, in Boise, Idaho.
God bless our vets!

On a day like today, August 9th, in 1936, the Bishop of Barbastro, Spain, was killed by the leftists supporting the Spanish Republic.
How did they kill him? As @Velarde_1808 explains, this is how:
“They cut off his testicles, they forced him to walk while bleeding profusely, they hit him in the mouth with a brick while blaspheming against the Eucharist, they shot him, they threw him onto a pile of corpses while still alive, and he agonized for 2 hours until the Reds grew tired of his prayers and supplications and they finished him off, not with a merciful shot, but just enough so that he would bleed out and die in greater pain. And he died forgiving.”
