Warm congratulations to Rt Hon @Thomas_Tayebwa upon being endorsed by the @NRMOnline Caucus for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Even with his success in the political realm of Uganda, TT has remained a relatable, down to earth gentleman. Soldier on and God speed

My wife and I voted today from Nyamiyaga Village, Bitereko Sub-County, in Ruhinda North during the NRM primaries. For my candidature to continue representing Ruhinda North on the NRM ticket, we based our campaign on what we promised, what we delivered, and what we intend to accomplish in the next term.
During the campaign, I was heartened by the many people who thanked me for fulfilling the promises I made such as bringing electricity, piped water, better roads, a Health Centre III, and a Skills Development Centre.
We had a very high turnout, and the exercise was conducted peacefully. At my village polling station, I scored 271 votes while my opponents got a total of 10 votes. I am confident that we are heading for a resounding victory. We now await the announcement of the final results, and I reaffirm my commitment to respect the outcome of the election.
I wish to commend the millions of NRM supporters who participated in today’s elections, as well as the thousands of candidates vying to become the party’s flag bearers for various positions. I appeal to everyone to remain peaceful and to respect the results of the election.
While elections are a competition, with winners and those who may not win, the NRM is a mass party that accommodates everyone. Let us stay united and build a better Uganda together. @TayariWestTV
HAPPY 19th ANNIVERSARY
Once upon a time, I met a young beautiful lady. She was very nice, friendly, a devoted Christian, diligent professional and very hard worker.
We became friends. Then very good friends. And very very good friends that at any given moment we wanted to spend all our time together. We used to talk, talk, and talk, then text, text and exchange those long SMS messages deep into the night. Day by day, we grew so close. Then we fell in love. deep in love. Our parents were happy, they gave us their blessings.
We exchanged the vows.
That was 19 years ago.
Step by step, year after year, the love has grown deeper and richer. Along the way, we’ve hit our low points, but we always have enough reserves in the tank to help us look each other in the eyes, reach out with the loving hand and pull each other out and climb on to the next high.
I am enjoying this walk.
Thank you honey for a beautiful 19 years of friendship, faithfulness, unconditional love.
Happy wedding anniversary @Akeda3
THE SHAKA SSALI I KNEW
In the year 2000, I participated in the World Bank-organized competition called the Development Marketplace of Ideas.
I was a young, ambitious journalist with a knack for big ideas, so when this global competition came up, I decided to give it a try. Then the good news arrived: Your proposal, titled "Booster Dose to Anti-Corruption Efforts in Uganda," has been selected among the best proposals out of more than 20,000 proposals received. You are invited to present the proposal at the Global Development Marketplace of Ideas at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
There I was, a young journalist with no previous travel experience, no family ties to the U.S., but ready to go to the big platform and sell my ideas. My proposal was a nexus between journalism and how it could be harnessed to perform the public good of fighting corruption back home.
The only person I knew in Washington at that time was Shaka Sali. I had only seen him on TV, by the way, and had no personal connection to call upon. A friend of mine got me his contact. Remember, this was before WhatsApp, and phone calls or, in rare cases, email would serve the purpose. When I called Shaka, the man I had only seen on TV, I was banking on luck, but I was surprised by his response.
“Ndugu, I have listened to your programs on the radio. I’m happy to welcome you to D.C. Just tell me when you arrive, and I will pick you up at the airport. I stay not far from Washington Dulles International Airport.”
From the airport, Shaka Ndugu drove me straight to one of the mega supermarkets in the neighborhood. He led me to the food section and asked me to pick anything that I would want for dinner. I was lost for choice. I didn’t want to pick too much, what if I overshot the budget? He was quick to come to my rescue; my job was simply to point at anything, and he would put it in the trolley.
His Washington home was a big apartment, not storeyed, but with a spacious compound. After my frequent visits to the U.S., I now understand that he was living in one of the affluent neighborhoods in Washington, reserved for diplomats and high-ranking citizens.
He was living alone at that time, and what came to my mind was to go to the kitchen and prepare dinner. But he wouldn’t let me do that.
“You are my guest, so I have to prepare the dinner for you, Ndugu. Feel at home,” Shaka told me. After dinner, he quickly washed the dishes, and I was humbled by the level of humility the kid from Kigezi exuded.
When I became President of the Uganda Journalists Association, I had the honor and privilege of hosting him for a media dialogue here in Kampala. The dialogue was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, and when he came, the respect and security detail accorded to him by the U.S. government proved to me that he was bigger than how he carried himself.
That is the Kigezi kid I knew.
May you keep holding that microphone in the heavens.
Last year, We had the honor of being hosted by the President of the Republic of Rwanda for a memorable evening in Kigali. 🇷🇼✨

DON’T GET CAUGHT UP IN THE APPEARANCE OF SUCCESS. Uganda is full of pretenders and false success stories – of people who seemingly have made it without much effort. Comparing yourself to them will make you feel demoralize for nothing. So stay true to yourself. Life is an enigma. Risdel was a rising star at a time I was exiting mainstream journalism. He rose to be one of the top security journalists of his time. RIP https://t.co/Ld4uccfHUW
A really sad day for Uganda - the early and unexpected death of Risdel Kasasira, one of its finest security reporters. He was down to earth & very funny. A lot of what we know in recent years about Uganda's army & its politics is due to his brilliant work. https://t.co/CBmNmq1emh
Happy 2025! 🥳

Overhead (Don’t kill me, I am just the messenger): “Ugandan Asians comprise about 1% of the country’s population, and Ugandan Somalis less than 0.5%, but together they contribute nearly 80% of the country’s tax revenues. On a per capita basis the Somalis now contribute more than the Asians. The “indigenous” Ugandans, the owners of the land - including those loudmouthed fellows showing off big cars in the capital Kampala - contribute peanuts, they are just a bunch of freeloaders; especially if you factor in the contribution from the Eritreans”.
“I am happy to formally announce that Rwanda is bidding to bring the thrill of racing back to Africa, by hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix.” President Kagame | Opening of FIA General Assemblies
“For the very first time, the FIA General Assembly is being held in Africa. This is an important milestone, which signals the goal of the motorsport industry to connect directly with fans and aspiring drivers in Africa.
In a world where various forces are pushing us apart, the values of sportsmanship should bring us closer together. It all comes down to respect, and giving everyone the chance to contribute, where they can.” President Kagame | Opening of @fia General Assemblies
