It was a pleasure to join the IP Researchers Europe (IPRE) Conference 2026 which took place on 18-19 June at @WIPO and the @wto in Geneva. My presentation focused on reconciling the accessory functions of #trademarks, in the age of #AI and beyond @CiTiP_KULeuven
The particular paper focuses on the use of LLM-based chatbots, the challenges it creates for safeguarding judicial independence and impartiality, and potential mitigation measures (work in progress). Full programme of the event: https://t.co/IYu8H2vrW5

It was a pleasure to see so many familiar faces at the 2026 Leuven IP & AI Conference, which took place on 18-19 May 2026. I was also glad to have had a chance to present and discuss my latest paper on trademark functions in the EU doctrine (work in progress) #AI#IP#trademarks
It was a great pleasure to witness the ‘soft’ launch of the Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice, and to attend the Symposium on “Judges and AI: The Future of Judicial Decision-Making”, which took place at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.
Happy to see that ‘A Companion to Digital Ethics’, edited by Luciano Floridi and Mariarosaria Taddeo, is now published.
Together with Peggy Valcke we have contributed a chapter on the ‘right to be forgotten’ as developed in the European Union.
Some further reflections on #AI and the future of #trademark functions – now available as a preprint on SSRN and forthcoming as a book chapter in Ilanah Fhima & Anke Moerland (eds.) Research Agendas in Trade Mark Law (Edward Elgar Publishing, forthcoming)
