Last month, Miami City Commissioners moved to oust the entire board of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, which has overseen the development of the city's historic Black beach for over two decades.
Many are calling the decision suspicious. https://t.co/xSLg65YbTT
Leaders from South Florida's Black community have signed onto a letter asking Miami Mayor @FrancisSuarez to veto last week's legislation to remove the board of the majority-Black Virginia Key Beach Trust. They appeal to Suarez's famous "How can I help" tweet.
In a 4-1 vote, with Russell in opposed, the Miami City Commission votes to name itself the new board for the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust, with Christine King as chair, and she gets to appoint 2 more members to make a 7-member board. They ousted the current board.
That's it: the commission votes 4-1 to take over the Virginia Key Beach Park Advisory Board. Ken Russell is the sole dissenting vote, says he wanted to be able to appoint someone to the board who knows the issues better than him.
Overt political retaliation from the corrupt 🤡s on the @CityofMiami commission. It's a story we've sadly seen play out before with retaliation against @vkocfl and @BallAndChainBar. Unreal that they keep getting elected and getting away with it.
Join @EngageMIA at Miami City Hall TOMORROW 9 AM to advocate for the Virginia Key Board of Trustees!! City of Miami Commissioners are voting to dissolve the board and appoint themselves. Tomorrow is the final vote. @vkocfl@VirginiaKeyBeac
It's Take a A Kid Mt-Biking Day out at the #VirginiaKey mountain bike trail and pump track.
Great family fun. Many ride in via the Rickenbacker too, emphasizing yet again why we need safe, equitable protected bike lanes for riders of all ages.
I can’t think of a better display of who Americans really are than the people of Martha’s Vineyard coming together to show humanity to strangers. #MarthasVineyard
@305slie@newschica@alexDLPmiami Why is it that all the attack posts are from fake account? Seems like a coordinated attack campaign, doesn't it? What's the real goal here?

Good morning from Miami City Hall for today's commission meeting. During public comment, most speakers are asking city to reconsider the forced closure of the Virginia Key Outdoor Center.
@JoshCeb@vkocfl My kids went to camp there and it had a positive affect on them, especially my oldest daughter. We spend a lot of time there as a family. Taking this away will be devastating to families and homeless people will not be helped from that location.
The majority of commenters are here about Virginia Key.
All of those who have spoken on VK have asked the city to reopen the @vkocfl. Several parents here say their children have become environmentalists because they went to camp there.
