Ok, I finally got this "callback hell" (with ecs messages) working to get the quest completion screen. As usual, multiplayer makes shit x10 more difficult.
P.S. don't mind the "correctly marked mines" counter, it's incorrect
I try to keep this profile about game dev only, but I can't say I'm not grinning like a child on his birthday this whole morning π₯°
Nice change of news after spending nights in a bomb shelter in Kyiv
quest progress is now synced in multiplayer!!
spent an insane amount of time to cover all the silly edge-cases, and might still discover more later π«
Spent a ridiculous amount of time on optimizing a stupid loop out with maths! Absolutely not worth it performance-wise for the game of my scale but I definitely had fun
@MargitBoogaard@jedikatalina@TankieSlappa@Kampfkueken1980 They have a different number of vowels though, so they are still quite distinguishable
Can't speak for nonnative speakers ofc, but I'd never thought there could be issues in making those words out
Multiplayer syncing is done btw! I won't upload a new gif today, cause we've got an air raid alert and I'm no longer at my PC.
Will be working on quest rewards next!
Lmao
An accidental description in the UI of how a feature should work if implemented sensibly WILL BE FIXED ASAP
Apologies for setting your hopes up too high by pretending we aren't completely out of touch with our customers
Weβre aware of an incorrect in-game text description for XP Boosters that was introduced with the latest update.
XP Boosters count down in real time, as they have since launch.
Weβre working to correct the in-game text in a future update and apologize for the confusion.
@tailgategame Yeah I understand that βΊοΈ it's just that the feeling that a game is polished comes from small details, so if there's an opportunity to make it look smoother, I'd go for it.
(But I appreciate you not wanting to get stuck on something tiny when there's still a game to be made)
@tailgategame And final idea for the polish (I promise π ): don't require the dog to stay so close to it, animate the dog's movement towards a bowl if a player is still a bit too far from it. It's a bit painful to see how you approach it in a jittery manner for the action to appear π
@tailgategame Btw, it would be nice for the paw icon to appear before I fully approach a bowl (can be semitransparent), so I know sooner there's something interactible there
I quite enjoy the fact that gamers are so hostile towards the AI slop. After seeing how many people outside adopt AI or consume its slop without any second thought, it's nice to retreat here, where companies get slammed hard for producing it.
This evening, I switched to my macbook (was trying vim on Windows), and wow - nothing beats navigating code with a touchpad π It just feels like vim is holding me back. Will keep trying to get used to it on Windows though.
Day 3 of trying out vim.
I still feel like I spend most of my cognitive energy on trying to figure out the most effective way to jump to code I want to edit. Some shortcuts started carving into my muscle memory, but I'm still quite far from being able to use it comfortably.
