How Do I Walk In Peace When Everything Around Me Is Chaotic?
Key Passage: Philippians 4:6–7 — “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
Peace in a chaotic world is not found by pretending the chaos is not real. The Bible never tells the believer to close his eyes, hum a hymn, and act like storms are imaginary. Paul wrote Philippians from prison, not from a lakeside resort with a fruit basket and a rocking chair. When he said, “Be careful for nothing,” he was not speaking as a man insulated from trouble. He knew affliction, betrayal, hunger, beatings, shipwreck, imprisonment, false brethren, public pressure, and spiritual warfare. Yet the Holy Ghost moved him to write about “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding.” That means Bible peace is not the absence of trouble. It is the presence of God ruling the heart while trouble makes noise outside the gate.
The world offers counterfeit peace, and most of it is about as sturdy as a paper umbrella in a hurricane. It says peace comes from control, money, security, applause, better circumstances, entertainment, medication, denial, positive thinking, or getting every difficult person in your life to finally act right. Good luck with that last one; you may as well teach a goat to play the organ. The world’s peace depends on the weather. God’s peace depends on the Lord. The world says, “When everything settles down, then you can rest.” God says, “Bring everything to Me now.” That is a different kingdom, a different foundation, and a different kind of peace altogether.
The believer must learn that peace is not a feeling he chases, but a truth he walks in. Romans 5:1 says, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” That is the foundation: peace with God. Philippians 4 then deals with the peace of God ruling the heart and mind in the present battle. Do not confuse standing and state. The saved man’s standing in Christ is settled by the blood, but his daily state can be disturbed by fear, care, sin, distraction, unbelief, and a mind feeding on chaos. Peace begins with who Christ is, what Christ has done, what God has promised, and where the believer is seated in Him. The storm may be real, but it is not Lord.
1. Start With Peace With God Before Seeking The Peace Of God
Before a man can walk in the peace of God, he must have peace with God. Romans 5:1 is not a scented candle verse for religious moods; it is bedrock doctrine. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” The lost man may want calm nerves, quieter circumstances, and a better night’s sleep, but his greatest problem is not chaos around him. It is war between his sinful condition and a holy God. The gospel does not merely give emotional relief. It reconciles a sinner to God through the blood of Jesus Christ. That is where real peace begins.
A saved believer must return often to this foundation. You are not trying to earn God’s favour while the world falls apart around you. You are accepted in the beloved. You are justified by faith. You are sealed with the Holy Spirit. You are not hanging over hell by the frayed thread of your latest emotional performance. Christ made peace “through the blood of his cross.” If that foundation is not settled, every storm will make you wonder whether God has turned against you. But when peace with God is settled, the soul can face trouble from the right side of Calvary.
The peace of God in Philippians 4 does not replace peace with God in Romans 5. It flows from it. A son may be troubled, but he is still a son. A sheep may tremble, but he still belongs to the Shepherd. A soldier may be surrounded, but he still serves the Captain. The devil loves to make a believer interpret every chaotic season as divine rejection. That is a lie. Chastening may come, correction may come, pressure may
@WorldBankAfrica Pls when will a common man in Africa will stop hearing money figures on developments in radios and other communications platforms&not seen D realty on their daily life, we need poverty reduction policies that make rural dwellers stop acrossing Atlantic Ocean for greener pastures
@omoluabi1sq Hummmmm, as long as is human being that will rule human being. We will always find faults in the administration. If Petrol turn to be 100 Naira, imota rice sold 10,000 Naira per bag. We will still prefer someone else. Give President Tinunbu administration time.
It is only through disciplined mass action that our victory can be assured. I call on all youth in Nigeria both in urban and rural areas to join Present administration with different ideas in shaping of a new Nigeria, Violent has no answer for better future. say "No to Protest"
