@educator4ever36 As we were homeschooling, the argument against was “what about their socialization”?
I would laugh and say take a look at the socialization of the public school kids. How’s that going?!?
(my homeschool kids got all the social interaction they needed via sports, church, etc)
@educator4ever36 Thank you!
I was a public school teacher for 34 years.
My wife is a public school teacher.
My daughter is a public school teacher.
But we homeschooled our kids up through 8th grade. They turned out great! My daughter graduated college Summa Cum Laude.
@educator4ever36 This is personal choice. If teachers want to spend extra time now working on school stuff when it’s more relaxed and therefore have less to do when school starts what’s the harm? In my career I’ve done it both ways and I see advantages to both. Do you what makes you happy.
@educator4ever36@LCPSDoBetter I respectfully disagree. They should be permitted to visit any school operation at any time. However, as a courtesy, they should give advance notice of the visit. And I’d even be okay with a requirement that they give advance notice of a visit.
@educator4ever36 Thoughts on cameras in the classroom? My state (MD) recently banned phones the entire school day. The only logical argument I’ve heard against this is that students filming has helped (& hurt) many situations.
I’m an advocate for cameras EVERWHERE but restrooms.
@oh_HOLMES Tell us more. Why did you not pursue other avenues? Black male teachers are badly needed. Have you given up? Are you already well established in another career? Please share more about this and about you!
@johnlovell275 Newton’s Third Law: When one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts a force on the first object that is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
In teaching, having clear expectations for assignments and behaviors solves a multitude of problems. Or at least reduces them by several orders of magnitude.
@educator4ever36@everettis1 But yeah in general the more years of successful teaching the better the chances of being a good administrator.
And I love the idea of always teaching a class to keep them grounded.
@educator4ever36@everettis1 I have mixed feelings about this. I taught for 34 years but would be a terrible administrator. I also know some admins that are great after only teaching 5-6 years. And I’ve known poor teachers that became great admins. And vice versa.
@AZEducator@educator4ever36@MrTasby Yes! The ONLY viable way to get more males in teaching and counseling, and we desperately need that especially for our disadvantaged middle school boys, is to raise salaries to be higher than they can get elsewhere for similar credentials.
