Technically, Orion is in orbit, but it has very low perigee to ensure that the giant core stage of the SLS rocket reenters safely. It also means that the Orion/upper stage stack should fire its own engine in apogee to enter a more stable parking orbit around the Earth.
Solar array wings are being deployed!
The distinctive X-wing solar panels on the European Service Module are now unfolding, getting solar power and recharging its batteries.
Orion's European Service Module will deploy its solar panels in about 10 min.
The vehicle will reach 1808 km apogee at about 0740 UTC, 52 min into flight.
