@DrJoeAbah It’s always interesting how private sector folks have a different mindset to those who have worked in Intl Devt and governance . For a lot of less privileged folks, the money their kids get from NYSC goes a long way without the hurdles of applying for a “job”/limited internship
This akara conversation shows that we really have a numbers problem. Maths is so so important. Seemingly educated folks that don’t know the basic difference between revenue and profits. Just subsistence level thinking . So sad !
@anosio The fact that your mom sold Akara in 1990, you now want her grandchildren to be selling Akara in 2026. O wrong na, people sold Akara and could send their children to FGGC. Now you can’t even go to those schools anymore
You can’t achieve economic growth at scale only with an informal economy. An informal economy without an enabling environment, strong polices and infrastructure in place is still subsistence at best . Nothing scales at the level of subsistence :
The most dangerous thing ghat can happen to you as a leader is being surrounded by sycophants. At a certain level you become out of touch with the realities on ground, surrounding yourself with yes people now makes it worse
Informal unemployment is something like 93% of the working population. So much is just not possible when only a tiny proportion of the populace is formally employed - pensions, mortgages etc. If there’s one thing Nigeria needs less of, it’s informal employment.
But the most telling part of this video is when she says “we have encouraged Nigerians as best as we can”. As I say, things that are career enders elsewhere are just a normal day in Afreekah
These people have been out of touch for so long, and it is a marvel that they remain not only politically relevant but also charged with leadership. Nothing they have ever said makes sense, no matter how much sycophants try to whitewash it. Nigerian political discourse is largely an IQ test, with really no basis for debate.
The problem with giving all of this talk too much attention is that people get distracted from their true intentions and actions. The government’s local borrowing increased 75% in one year without any meaningful impact on the man on the streets. Those are the issues that deserve attention. They are stealing us blind and distracting us with rubbish conversations.
Roasting corn and kuli-kuli as hope renewed. Where drones are changing warfare. Where women are leading regional politics driving change. In world where we are talking about how AI is changing industry. These people despise Nigerians. I am just thinking of the wife of the German Chancellor saying they have provided grants for women to start selling schnitzel and currywurst as part of the Chancellor's agenda of renewed hope.

“We are literally at 10 years anniversary of BREXIT, and I saw, first hand, what gets sold in these referenda. That everything is going to be easy. That you can keep your passport. You can keep the currency. You can stay in the country and leave it at the same time.”
@DrJoeAbah Stock picking and crypto yes to kalokalo. Investing in ETFs maybe less so. A mixture of ETFs, plus gold and real estate then Bob’s your uncle😊 like the saying goes.
@toluogunlesi Have you seen 45 years old ladies in 2026. Aha no na; she looks good no doubt but not 2 decades younger . Justice for the 40 year olds abeg !
