Why Brex tuned out the 'noise' & locked AF in:
“This is a big f*cking deal.” $5 billion of liquidity in 100% of the stock."
Pedro Franceschi (@pedroh96), CEO of @brexHQ
"So much for the past 2.5-3 years was about tuning out everyone & everything that we hear; about X, people talking about things, asking, “What about Brex? Is Brex dead? Is Brex alive?”
And just saying: every ounce of energy we spent on that versus actually fixing the company, improving the quality of the product, improving the way we do go to market, increasing the rigor on hiring, making the culture stronger — this bucket was so much more meaningful by a factor of like 10,000x.
Versus paying attention to where the vibes were on X.
And I think to me this was similar. It was actually really interesting to see that, because of course a lot of the reactions (to the acquisition on X) were probably not the most constructive.
And then our team seeing people’s reactions to those reactions was like, “Oh my God, we actually built something tremendous.”
So in some ways it was very validating, because people were like, “This is a big f*cking deal.” Like $5 billion of liquidity in 100% of the stock."
Delegating bookings, managing multi-city itineraries, booking a train for your European trip, or earning airline and hotel loyalty points, getting business travel right for customers is critical, and @brexHQ's solution covers the bases—and then some. Learn more in comments.
Switching to founder mode is the best thing I’ve done at Brex in many years. What it means for us in practice:
1) Having a single roadmap for the entire company, where I’m the editor of what ships in each release.
2) Eliminate people manager roles. Leaders must operate at all levels, just like founders.
3) Looking at every metric the most punitive way possible, removing all room for wishful thinking and surfacing the few things that truly matter.
Results: growth rate 2x faster vs a year ago, burn down 70% YoY, and my highest level of energy since I started the company.
And yes, also very inspired by a conversation with @bchesky too. Silicon Valley is healing. 🙏
I have interviewed 800 founders on 20VC.
The single commonality of the best (@eldsjal@tobi) they all start entrepreneurial endeavours young.

Powerful, meet simple. @brexHQ's Summer 2024 Release is here.
Close books continuously, even every day, with AI-powered accounting through accruals support. A simplified card control center. Bill pay that makes you money.
Today we’re announcing our 24’ Summer release at @BrexHQ! ☀️ AI-powered accounting with continuous close (first software ever to do so), two completely redesigned products, and a blazing-fast new UI with 100+ improvements that make Brex the most powerful *and* simple it’s ever been
Six years ago, we started Brex as a corporate card designed by a tech company, not a bank. We grew quickly along with our customers, and built so many products as they scaled – like global capabilities, robust expense policies, live budgets and more. Our product depth is why 120+ public companies rely on Brex every day to run their businesses.
But back in December, we decided to look inward. We realized that building so much, so quickly, sometimes came at odds with our original vision of simplicity. We made our main priority for this year to deliver not just the most powerful spend platform on the planet, but also the most simple, thoughtful and delightful user experience for founders and Finance teams.
We had to completely change how we run the company to make this release happen and I’m so proud to share it with you–as it’s our largest and most polished release to date. Key highlights:
📕 A new AI-based accounting workflow that allows customers to achieve continuous close and close the books every day – the nirvana of accounting.
💳 A new Card Control Center that makes it easy to manage cards and limits at scale (whether you have 5 or 50,000 cards), as well as spend requests that replace janky PO workflows.
💵 Bill Pay with AI-based line itemization, multi-entity support, and the ability to pay bills by card, earning rewards and cashback on spend that was previously going through ACH.
🔎 Redesigned tables, with consistent and blazing-fast responsiveness on filtering, pagination, grouping, sorting, as well as LLM-based search that is 400% faster.
🚀 100+ other updates, such as AI-powered Slack integration, account co-branding, audit trails, sandbox mode, stable credit limits, a new security hub and much more.
Disrupting, doing things in ways they've never been done, creating value for our customers. In esteemed company of fellow disruptors.

Congrats to Aryav Taneja of Redmond on winning the 2023 @CongressionalAC for WA-01!
Aryav’s app, Vizibox, was one of many incredible apps we saw this year & a great example of how tech can support people with visual impairments.
We executed a pilot with @brexHQ on fine-tuning the models and where the fine-tuned GPT-3.5 model outperformed base GPT-3.5 66% of the time.
We see strong evidence that you can fine-tune GPT-3.5 to provide dramatically better performance.
