A team of young scientists @fralinbiomed & medical students @vtcsom committed to science outreach | Managed by @RachanaDSomaiya | Podcast @LickofScience
Since the start of my Ph.D., I have been extremely passionate about communicating science to non-scientists and now I'm so thrilled to share the news that @VTCSOP has been awarded Civic Engagement 2019 Microgrant by @ResearchAmerica for our @LickofScience Podcast!!
We are excited to announce that the Big Lick of Science has a new producer! @_chtaylor Caroline Taylor is the newest member to the team. She studies cognitive development in infants in the Developmental Science program at @VT_Psychology
Please give her a warm welcome!
To get excited for this episode, check out the following media that Dr. Meng has been a part of, including a discussion with Dr. Fauci about the future of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a new study published in @JNeurochem, @michaelfoxlab and @Neubadah describe 40+ genes expressed in the brain's vLGN, a visual processing region. They also discovered new brain cell subtypes unique to this region that form a striking layered formation.

Neuroscientists at all levels should definitely register and attend this! Especially those who aren’t Black or URM. Please share with your departments.

Reading lists for non-Black folks to learn from
I encourage fellow academics to dig into this literature
Also encourage fellow immigrants to do so - our communities also have anti-Black racism

Please join me in welcoming @rae_padget as our new communications director! Apart from being a super-smart PhD student, she has served as a great leader of @RoanokeGSA. Bonus: She runs marathons & some also say that she runs like a cheetah. We are excited to have you on our team!
We want to clarify that this is for the Student Organization Leadership awards! Check out the awards video on the Facebook page of Student Engagement and Campus Life at Virginia Tech!
Congrats to our own @rae_padget for the honorable mention of Outstanding VT Grad Student of the Year and @AlyssaBrunal for the honorable mention of Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion at VT. We are so proud of you guys and the work that you have done for Roanoke Grad Students!
Congratulations to TBMH students @rae_padget, @AlyssaBrunal, and @RachanaDSomaiya, proud of our students today and everyday. Well deserved and best wishes for continued success.
Tired of reading about Covid19? Take a break and see our new study on a different infectious agent (Toxoplasma) impacting inhibitory brain synapses and glia. Great collaboration between @gabbylcarrillo@VT_TBMH@FralinBiomed@virginia_tech and @BladerLab https://t.co/7KhgcKz6Wz
Finally found an answer to something I've been wondering. Per @NIHDirector, seems if you receive stipend/salary through grants from @NIH, and you're unable to work due to #COVID19, you CAN continue to be paid during that period.
