LONG THREAD on 1999 Motion of Confidence:
Exactly 23 years ago, the NDA govt led by PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee faced a confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
A thread diving deep into the EXTRAORDINARY events of 17 April 1999 that forever changed Indian politics. /1

For ages CPIM had an open diktat that BJP mustn't grow in Bengal. Yesterday the famous Lenin Statue of Murshidabad has been mutilated & vandalized.
@ImperiumHindu Whatever ideology Bengal adopts, it does so on steroids. Parties voted into power in Bengal usually don't get voted out for a long time. The biggest roadblock was capturing power there once, now that it's done, Hindutva should be able to take over the state quickly.
It is with great joy that we inform all devotees of Prabhu Shri Ramlalla Sarkar that all Mandir construction work has been completed. This includes the main Mandir and the six Mandirs within the precinct, dedicated to Mahadev, Ganesh Ji, Hanuman Ji, Suryadev, Maa Bhagwati, and Maa Annapurna, as well as the Sheshavatar Mandir. Flags and kalash (pinnacles) have been installed on these Mandirs.
Additionally, the seven mandapas dedicated to Rishi Valmiki, Rishi Vashishtha, Rishi Vishwamitra, Rishi Agastya, Nishadraj, Shabari, and Devi Ahilya have also been completed. The Sant Tulsidas Mandir is also complete, and statues of Jatayu and the Squirrel have been installed.
All tasks directly related to the convenience and arrangements for devotees have been fully completed. As per the plan, road construction and stone flooring work are being carried out by L&T, while landscaping, greenery, and the development of Panchvati over 10 acres are being swiftly executed by GMR.
The only ongoing works are those not directly related to the public, such as the 3.5-kilometer-long boundary wall, trust office, guest house, auditorium, etc.
A leading chess popularizer, a great commentator who loved chess, its lore, the players, the theory and everything else it offered, and described it to us with eloquence, humor and warm empathy, was always uplifting to hear him. Almost feels like I have lost a friend. Om Shanti.
GM Daniel Naroditsky passed away. He was a talented chess player, commentator, and educator. FIDE extends its deepest condolences to Daniel’s family and loved ones.
India should view this as an opportunity to reset the ties with USA by asserting its non-negotiables and thus building a new foundation (however long that may take). 2025 in India-US ties is similar to 1971 and 1998, in this regard.
This "Almost no political faction in the US came to defend this strategic partnership in the last month..." sort of confirms two things which Indians need to wake up to;
a) There's tacit bipartisan consensus on a broad policy centered around containing India albeit with different diplomatic flavours.
b) Indian/Hindu lobbying in DC banks more on 'this too shall pass' approach trying to encounter less hurdles than an actively assertive voice to cement non-negotiables i.e. foundations.

When the Rani of Jhansi realized that the fort is about to fall, there was absolute silence for some time. The outer corridor has already fallen while the Rani was holed up in the inner fort. One fine day, the main gates opened and bust out of it, the Rani in person with an escort of 500 mercenaries and the royal treasury on a state elephant amidst.
As a proud Indian, I unironically see this as an inevitable side effect of positive developments.
People pet harmless and cute kittens, but never a fast growing assertive lion who is capable of tearing them apart limb to limb with its growing claws and powerful canine teeth.
Similarly, when a country and its people become too threatening, then romanticized views about it disappear, as it's happening with India. As India sheds its Gandhian-Nehruvian passivity and weakness and strives to be a truly sovereign power under Savarkarite Hindutva vision with a fast growing economy and Indians becoming visibly successful in India and outside, various people realize that Indians and Hindus are their competitors and a threat, they shed any romanticized notions they might have held about it and start hating on India relentlessly hoping to bring India down.
It's not that India wasn't poor or didn't have filthy places when some Western boomers held a romanticized view of India. What has changed is that India is no longer a passive kitten but a fast growing lion inspired by Hindutva vision and seeks to become a powerful Hindu nation.
Prayed at the Brihadisvara Temple, Gangaikonda Cholapuram. It was a deeply spiritual experience at one of India’s finest expressions of Chola devotion. I prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the people of India.
