Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has endorsed California's potential new billionaire tax laws, even if it will cost him $8 billion.
"I don't mind paying taxes. The more you make, the more taxes you pay. I'm okay with that. I am the ultimate American Dream."
A retired NASA engineer who had worked on the Space Shuttle program for 25 years was hired by SpaceX at age 62. He described the first week as the most disorienting experience of his professional life.
At NASA, a design change required 3 meetings, 2 committees, a review board, and 6 to 18 months of documentation. At SpaceX, his new supervisor said "if it works, build it. If it doesn't, change it by Friday."
He sat at his desk after the first day and called his wife. He told her he felt like a man who had been swimming with ankle weights for 25 years and someone just cut them off. He could move. He could decide. He could build something in the morning and test it in the afternoon. The constraint that he had accepted as the nature of aerospace engineering turned out to be the nature of bureaucracy.
Within 6 months he had contributed to more design iterations than he had completed in his last 5 years at NASA. Not because he was working harder. Because the time between having an idea and testing the idea collapsed from months to hours. The same brain. The same knowledge. A different operating system.
He described a specific moment where he proposed a modification to a Raptor engine component. At NASA, the proposal would have entered a queue. At SpaceX, the modification was machined by the end of the day and tested by the following morning. He watched his idea become a physical object in 18 hours. At NASA, 18 hours would not have been enough to schedule the first meeting to discuss whether to schedule a meeting.
He told an interviewer: "I didn't get smarter when I went to SpaceX. I got faster. The intelligence was always there. The system was in the way."
The difference between SpaceX and NASA is not talent. NASA has extraordinary talent. The difference is the time between a thought and a test. SpaceX compresses it. NASA elongates it. The same engineer produces 10x more at SpaceX than at NASA because the bottleneck was never the engineer. It was the meetings about the meetings about the work.

A group of white men mocked and harassed an Asian man before challenging him to a fight. He fought back, knocking one man out and beating another.
@Loschberger@stats_feed But no state gives such a low pay. See the average hourly wage below. China is still far behind as always. Too cheap as they are.

BREAKING: Starlink just connected a village in Vietnam where there wasn’t even a phone signal. 🇻🇳
Deep in Gia Lai’s mountains, O2 village is home to 57 households and nearly 200 people. It was the province’s final connectivity dead zone.
The connection is part of a joint program with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology deploying 254 Starlink terminals across 13 provinces. It draws from Starlink’s wider commitment to provide 1,000 terminals for schools, hospitals and rural communities.
Residents can now make video calls, study online and access digital public services.

“If you go to China and get out of the few shiny cities, it gets pretty grim pretty fast.”
Grant Newsham just revealed that China is not the juggernaut it pretends to be.
“In actual fact, it’s a very poor country.”
“There’s 600 million Chinese at least who live on $5 a day or less.”
“Youth unemployment is officially admitted to being about 17-20%, when actual fact is probably closer to 50%.”

The FOURTH largest economy in the world now runs on two-thirds clean energy.
California proved the skeptics WRONG.
You don’t have to choose between climate action and economic growth. We’re doing both.
California is PROOF that you don't have to sacrifice your economic future to transition to clean energy.
We’ve seen 40% GDP growth since 2019.
A reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by double digits.
No jurisdiction in America has grown faster than California.
Let's disabuse ourselves of the idea that innovative progress gets in the way of economic growth and prosperity.

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, on whether China is beating America 🇺🇸
“That’s a real stretch. China has a $15,000 per-person GDP. The U.S. is $85,000, with the most dynamic economy and prosperous the world has ever seen.
We have 40 military alliances, 140 economic alliances. They have one. They’ve done a great job in so many things, but they still import 10 million barrels of oil a day.
Are they going to be the best economic or military alliance for a lot of people out there who are mad at America? Probably not. So, you know, I’d take a deep breath on that one.”

The Secretary of National Defense of the Philippines, Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr, gave a master class in diplomacy at the Seoul Defense Dialogue.
While speaking about how China is invading waters and territories which belong to the Philippines, the Chinese slipped him a text with.
He wouldn’t have any of it and quickly scolded the Chinese. He said that their coercive acts, including the attempt to steer his statements during the conference will only backfire as they reveal China’s true nature on the international stage.
He said that whoever slipped him the not had made a huge mistake and would likely end up in a Chinese Gulag camp.
The Philippines are tired with never-ending Chinese encroachment attempts against their territory.
