Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent?

For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health. 

He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors.

The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture.

He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years.

Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons.

Yet those orders are being defied.

This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency.

He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university.

His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls. 

I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father. 

@FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights.

Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient.
This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

اگرچہ چند حلقوں کو اس تحریر کی طوالت سے تکلیف ہوگی مگر چونکہ ایک لایعنی بحث چھڑ ہی گئی ہے تو اس موقع کا فائدہ اٹھاتے ہوئے ��ند حقائق سامنے لے آؤں۔ آپ کو پڑھنے میں دقت پیش آتی ہے تو معذرت کے ساتھ میں اپنے کارکنان سے مخاطب ہوں، آپ آگے گزر سکتے ہیں ۔
۲۰۱۸ انتخابی مہم کا آغاز عمران خان نے سوات سے کیا اور کل جہاں ہیلی کاپٹر لینڈ ہوا اسی جگہ میرے گاؤں عمران خان کا ہیلی کاپٹر لینڈ ہوا تھا۔ خان صاحب نے جگہ کی تعریف کی، میں نے بتایا یہاں سوات آپریشن کے دور سے فوج قابض ہے انشاءاللہ اب آپ وزیراعظم ہوں گے تو یہ قبضہ چھڑوانا ہے، ایک بوڑھی خاتون جن کے پانچ بچوں کو دس سال سے فوج اٹھا کر لے گئی تھی اور جو کئی مہینوں سے میرے پاس آرہی تھے ان کی درخواست بھی تھما دی۔ جلسے میں خان صاحب سے یہ بھی گزارش کی کہ پچھل�� مہینےایک نوٹیفیکشن کے زریعے فاٹا اور پاٹا پر ٹیکس لاگو کیا گیا ہے آج ہم سے اسے ختم کرنے کا وعدہ کریں۔
عمران خان کی حکومت بنی، بطور رُکن کابینہ پہلی میٹنگ میں یاد دلایا کسٹم ایکٹ تو اسی دن ختم ہوگیا لیکن فوج سے زمین خالی کرانے اور بوڑھی ماں کے بچوں کو بازیاب کرانے کی جدوجہد جاری رہی۔
جب وزیراعظم سے حیلے بہانے کیے گئے تو میں نے اپنے حلقے کے لیے نئے منظور شدہ دو منصوبوں؛ یونیورسٹی اور ہسپتال کے لیے اسی جگہ کا انتخاب کیا۔ فوج نے ہماری ہی حکومت میں ہمیں دھمکیاں لگائیں، ہر ممکن کوشش کی لیکن ہم نے افتتاح کی تاریخ دے دی۔ نتیجتاً سول سوسائٹی کو ڈھال بنا کر عدالت سے رجوع کیا گیا۔ کیس لگنے سے قبل ہم نے اصل سول سوسائٹی کے مظاہرے کروا کر مطالبہ کیا کہ عوام کی جگہ خالی کرائیں اور یہ غیر قانونی قبضہ چھڑوائیں۔
فوج نے ہماری ہی حکومت میں مجھے غدار بنا کر پیش کرتے ہوئے وزیراعظم تک شکایت لگائی۔ خان صاحب نے بلایا نئے تنازعے کی وجہ پوچھی، انہیں یاد دلایا کہ یہ وہی جگہ ہے۔ خان صاحب نے ایم ایس کو بلا کر کہا کہ ان کو پیغام دو کہ یہ تو قبضہ چھڑوا رہا ہے اور آپ میرے پاس آکر کہتے ہیں کہ قبضہ کرنا چاہتا ہے۔ خان صاحب نے پوچھا عوام کی زمین تو چھڑوا لیں گے یہ منصوبے کہیں اور نہیں لے جاسکتے تاکہ تاخیر کا شکار نہ ہوں؟ میں نے کہا سر اتنے عرصے میں میں فوج کا قبضہ نہیں چھڑوا سکا یہ منصوبے اتنے بڑے ہیں کہ عوام خود قبضہ چھڑوا لے گی، لیٹ می ہینڈل دس۔ خان صاحب نے کہا پہلے ہی سستی سڑکوں اور احتساب کے عمل پر حالات ٹھیک نہیں، شہزاد اکبر کو کہا ہے کہ وہ آپ کے بھیجے کیسسز پرسیو کرے لیکن ”چوز یور بیٹلز کیرفلی، یو ہیو مینی فائٹس“۔
بلآخر ہم تمام کیسز جیت گئے اور افتتاح کااعلان ہوا۔ ڈی جی سی نے پیغام دیا کہ کرسکتے ہو تو کرلو یہ افتت��ح تب افتتاح سے قبل اسی جگہ عوام کو مجتمع کیا۔ منصوبہ روکنا ممکن نہیں تھا تو نیا پینترہ اختیار کیا گیا، ایف ڈبلیو او نے بغیر ٹینڈر کے منصوبے کا ٹھیکہ اٹھانے کی خواہش کا اظہار کیا۔ کور کمانڈر سے لے کر اعلی حکام تک نے سی ایم اور متعلقہ محکموں سے رابطے کیے، مجھ سے ڈی جی ایف ڈبلیو او نے ملاقات کا وقت مانگا۔ ملے تو کہنے لگے مبارک ہو بہت بڑے منصوبے ہیں ”مل کر اچھا سا پی سی ون بناتے ہیں اور بسم اللہ کرتے ہیں“۔ میں نے جواب دیا پی سی ون سے آپ کا یا میرا کیا لینا دینا؟ متعلقہ محکمے ہیں، افسران ہیں، پھر پلاننگ ہے، پی ڈی ڈبلیو پی ہے، پھر اشتہار، ٹینڈر، بڈنگ کا پراسس۔۔ کہنے لگا نہیں معیاری اور جلدی کام کے لیے ضروری ہے کہ ہم بیٹھ جائیں۔ ہم نے ان کی آفر مسترد کر دی اور بڈنگ کے بعد ۲۰۲۱ میں منصوبے کا آغاز ہوا۔کل اس منصوبے کا افتتاح ہوا۔ جو کہ ایک لمبی جدوجہد کی تاریخ رکھتی ہے۔
بات چھڑی تھی تختیوں سے، تختیاں اتارنے او�� تختیوں پر عمران خان کا نام لکھنے نا لکھنے سے عمران خان مائنس نہیں ہوتا۔ عمران خان مائنس ہوتا ہے یہ ماننے سے کہ عمران خان ایک فرد ہے جس سے رابطے کے زرائع ختم کرکے اس کے دیے گئے نظریے اور سوچ کو مفلوج کیا جاسکتا ہے، اس تاثر کو تقویت دینے میں ہم اپنے قول و فعل سے کس قدر سہولت کاری کررہے ہیں اس پر غور کریں۔
باقی نہ عمران خان کا نام تختیوں کا محتاج ہے نہ عمران خان کے بغیر کسی تختی پر اپنا نام لکھوا کر میں امر ہوسکتا ہوں۔ نہ مجھ اس تختی معاملے کا علم تھا نہ میرا وزیر اعلی سے کوئی رابطہ باقی ہے۔ مذکورہ پراجیکٹ عمران خان کے دور کا ایک ایسا پراجیکٹ تھا جس کو ممکن بنانے کے لیے ہم نے ملٹری مافیہ سے ایک طویل جنگ لڑی تھی مجھے خوشی ہوتی اگر اس منصوبے کا افتتاح بھی اس جدوجہد کے شایان شان ہوتا؛ عمران خان کی رہائی کے لیے عملی اور مثالی جدوجہد ہورہی ہوتی، ڈرون حملوں کے خلاف بڑے قلعوں کے سامنے پولیس گرفتاری کے آرڈرز کے ساتھ موجود ہوتی، آپریشن روکنے کے لیے ہم ہر آئینی، قانونی اور عوامی محا�� پر کوشاں ہوتے۔ مگر افسوس۔

خان صاحب کی بیماری، ڈرون حملے،آپریشن، بدلتے ہوئی بین الاقوامی حالات،پیٹرول کی قیمتوں میں ہوشربا اضافے،بے جا ٹیکسسسز، مہنگائی کے تناظر میں تحریک چلانے کی صلاح۔ صرف صوبہ نہیں ملک بند کرنے کا پلان،عمران خان کی صحت کے معاملے پر متحرک ہونے کی درخواست، ایوانوں سے استعفوں کے زریعے حکومت سے legitimacy واپس لینے کے لیے سب سے پہلے اپنے استعفیٰ کی پیشکش۔۔۔
میں یہ سمجھتا ہوں کہ عمران خان کی اسیری کا زمہ دار ان میں سے کوئی فرد نہیں بلکہ بین الاقوامی اسٹیبلیشمنٹ کی ایماء پر برسرپیکار عاصم منیر، قانونی و غیر قانونی طور پر اس کے ماتحت آنے والے ادارے اور اسکے اشاروں پر ناچنے والی سیاسی قوتیں ہیں۔ مگر کیا عمران خان اپنی ذات کے لیے مقید ہے کہ اس کی رہائی کے لیے اپنی پوری قوت سے کوشش کرنا بھی کسی کا فرض نہیں ہے؟ قیادت سے لیکر قوم تک کسی کا بھی نہیں؟
تحفظ آئین پاکستان مہینوں بعد ایک بیٹھک منعقد کرنے کا فیصلہ خود کر سکتی ہے،سی ایم جلسے کا اعلان اور پھر ملتوی خود کر سکتا ہے، ��راکین اسمبلی شادیوں اور دعوتوں میں مخالفین کے ساتھ بیٹھنے کا فیصلہ خود کر سکتے ہیں، مارکوپولو بن کر دنیا کے چکر لگانے کا فیصلہ خود کر سکتے ہیں،سیاسی کمیٹی خود کو “محب وطن” ثابت کرنے کے لیے ایمرجنسی اجلاس بلا سکتی ہے،تنظیمیں عہدوں کے نئے نئے نوٹیفیکشن کرسکتی ہیں،صوبائی حکومت فارم ۴۷ وزیراعظم ��ور صدر کے ساتھ بیٹھ سکتی ہے، کور کمانڈر ہاؤس کا رخ کر سکتی ہے لیکن جب عمران خان کا سوال ہو تو سیاسی کمیٹی کا جواب ہوتا ہے تحفظ آئین پاکستان، ان کا جواب ہوتا ہے پی ٹی آئی قیادت، قیادت فیملی کا نام لیتی ہے اور پھر سی ایم پر بات آجاتی ہے اور یہی سلیم اللہ سے کلیم اللہ اور کلیم اللہ سے سلیم اللہ چلتا رہتا ہے۔تو جب سارے فیصلے اپنے طور پر کیے جا سکتے ہیں تو تحریک کا فیصلہ کیوں نہیں؟ محض اس کے لیے عمران خان کی ہدایت درکار ہے اور جہاں عمران خان کی ہدایات میسر ہیں وہاں حیلے بے شمار ہیں۔ مان لیتے ہیں کہ منزل ایک ہے لیکن طریقہ کار مختلف ہے تو ایک دن کے نوٹس پر آپ سب ایک چھت کے نیچے ��یٹھ کر مشترکہ اجلاس بلا کر عملی جدوجہد کا فیصلہ کر سکتے ہیں اور ادھر ہی مشترکہ پریس کانفرنس کا انعقاد بھی ہوسکتا ہے۔ چلو یہ بھی مان لیتے ہیں کہ زیادہ تر تحریک کے حق میں ہیں تو کچے دھاگے توڑنے کے لیے اجلاس کو لائیو نشر کیجئے ویسے بھی کونسا ایٹم بم کا فارمولہ ڈسکس ہونا ہے تو جو بھی رکاوٹ ہوگی قوم خود اسٹیبلیشمنٹ کے ساتھ ان کا بھی احتساب کر لے گی۔
ہمیں تو گراونڈ ریلئٹی نہیں معلوم ناں تو بس پبلکی مشورہ دے دیا کیونکہ خان صاحب کی بیماری کے وقت میں نے ایک وائس نوٹ میں وہ تمام تجاویز دہرائے جو میں قیادت کو بارہا بھیج چکا تھا، نا ہی کوئی کال دی نا ہی کوئی فیصلہ کیا لیکن خان صاحب کے لیے کچھ کرنے کے بجائے مجھے قیادت و صوبائی حکومت نے پیغام بھجوایا کہ آپ کے ایک وائیس نوٹ سے تحریک کو Irreversible نقصان ہوا ہے۔ سیریسلی؟ اور یہ میرے ساتھ پہلی مرتبہ نہیں ہوا۔۔
تین سال بہت لمبا عرصہ ہوتا ہے وہ بھی ناحق اسیری اور عمران خان جیسا لیڈر۔ چار سال مجھے ہوگئے پہلے دربدر اور پھر مستقل اور پھر روپوشی بھی ایسی کہ کوئی ایک ہفتہ بھی نہ گزار سکے۔ آج صرف مل بیٹھ کر ایک جہد مسلسل کی گزارش کر رہا ہوں اگر نہیں ہو رہا آپ سے تو جیسا آپ ہمارے بیانیہ کا بوجھ نہیں اٹھا سکتے ہم آپ کی غفلت کا بوجھ نہیں اٹھا سکتے۔ اور یہ جو کرنل سے مل کر ایک دوسرے کو مشورے دیتے ہو کہ خان تو جیل میں ہی رہے گا مراد سعید تو پاگل ہے نہ اپنی پرواہ نہ کسی اور کی وہ تو جب بھی نظر آیا مارا جائے گا اپنی زندگی کیوں خراب کرتے ہو تو اتنا کہوں گا اللہ آپ کو مزید آسانیاں دے لیکن ہمارے مقصد ہماری جدوجہد اور ہماری زندگیوں کی قیمت پر نہیں بالکل بھی نہیں۔ کوئی فیصلہ کیجیے-

The impact of hundreds of elected members (Senators, MNAs and MPAs) of KP and Punjab assemblies at Adiala will be huge.

It WILL create the necessary pressure on this Govt (who is in power by stealing Imran Khan’s mandate) to get Imran Khan treated at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad.

It is an urgent and necessary pressure for Dogar court to take up Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s bail applications and set them FREE.

Police usually arrests Imran Khan’s supporters; not the family or elected members. We appeal to Imran Khan’s supporters (who are not office holders) NOT to come to Adiala today.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan is in solitary confinement since October 16, 2025.

He has spoken to his sons only twice in 2025 and once in February 2026 after Supreme Court orders. He has been denied books to read. He has received only 3 of the dozen books that we managed to get to adiala through a judge.

Then, a perfectly health and fit Imran Khan suddenly develops a clot in his eye. He was not provided medical assistance. For two weeks, he repeatedly told the jail superintendent that he CANNOT SEE.

The Adiala Jail superintendent Ghafoor Anjum DELAYED calling in a specialist for three months.

By the time the eye doctor came, the delay caused permanent damage to Imran Khan’s eye. We are extremely worried that his other eye could also develop a clot.

Imran khan has repeatedly sent messages over past few months that he is not satisfied with the treatment and there is only marginal improvement after the first injection in the eye. No improvement since then.

Over the past month, Bushra Bibi, his wife has also developed an eye condition and was operated upon last week.

Imran khan and his wife are being tortured through solitary confinement. We have repeatedly protested, demanding Imran Khan to be examined and treated at Shifa International Islamabad. There is an urgent need to identify the cause of the blood clot. Our worry is that his other eye could also develop a clot unless proper diagnosis is done and it’s treated accordingly

This is inhumane and a violation of all fundemental and human rights of a prisoner under Pakistan and International laws.

She spends 24 hours a day in isolation, except for 30 minutes with me per week - and even that is often ignored. It is unislamic to harm women, children and the elderly - and their motives are plain and clear. The judges are responsible for the justice in a society. They should be ashamed of themselves.”

My sons Sulaiman & @kasim_khan_1999 applied for visas in January (again… ) to allow them to visit their father @ImranKhanPTI in Pakistan. The Pakistan consulate states that online visa processing normally takes 7–10 working days. It has now been 60 days. This despite the public promise that they could safely travel there to see their father after 4 years, made by both Defence Minister @khawajaMAsif to @mehdirhasan & PM spokesperson @mosharrafzaidi to @SkyYaldaHakim
Meanwhile, they are not allowed to speak to him on the phone, nor send him a letter. They haven’t seen him since 2022 after he was shot in an assassination attempt.
This is an appeal directly to Pakisan’s PM @CMShehbaz to please allow Imran Khan’s two sons to see their father asap, particularly since, by all accounts, his health is in decline.
