American mathematician and professor Dr. Jeffrey Lang has described the Qur’an as far more than a book of rules and regulations.
In reflecting on his journey from atheism to Islam, Lang has said that only about 3% of the Qur’an deals directly with commands and prohibitions, while the remaining 97% focuses on faith, morality, ethics, human nature, the purpose of life, history, reason, and our relationship with Allah.
For Lang, studying the Qur’an was not simply about learning what to do—it was about understanding why we exist and where we are going. 🤍📖
The 3%/97% figures are Dr. Lang’s own characterization, not an officially established statistical classification of Qur’anic verses.
