@marilyndeutsch @OMSI @NWSPortland have you absolutely ruled out an upper atmosphere bolide event? i'm doubtful that a routine lighting/thunder event would be reported this widely. do we have any USGS seismic data to triangulate location? to a hammer, the world is a nail. to weather folks loud noises are thunder:)

@pdxalerts @OvernightWashCo it was almost certainly not thunder/lightning... but a bolide... a meteor exploding as it hits the earth's upper atmosphere. the sound was utterly unlike thunder.

@marilyndeutsch @WeatherJefe actually "swamp cooler" 2.0 was not really that. a swamp cooler works on the principle of evaporative cooling. effort-to-keep-wife-cool 2.0 was merely an (extremely primitive) AC... pushing air past something cold. effort 3.0 is probably a hotel room:)
