@DiggsWayne I think a lot of it goes back to the 80s. Fusion and electric experimentation had alienated a lot of critics/“classic” jazz fans and Marsalis was their champion as a return to “real jazz.” Miles Davis & others scorned him as “straight” (retro-nerd copycat) and it stuck for years.
