Wales just held its first Senedd election under a new proportional voting system. But did the media treat the electoral contest as a two-horse race between Plaid Cymru and Reform UK? Our new research study examines news coverage over the campaign 👀🧵 https://t.co/WAD6GMayh0
All the Senedd election constituencies are new and in Welsh. So if you need a reminder of what they are or how to say them, here’s a guide: https://t.co/cqKVNtzIye
Rhun ap Iorwerth has ripped up the party playbook and gambled all on becoming First Minister. It looks like it may pay off spectacularly in a week’s time, even if Reform win the most seats✍️ Jonathan Edwards https://t.co/vkCB28T9r5
At the end of last night's BBC debate the contours of a potential alliance that could keep Reform out of government were apparent
It's been obvious to Welsh political anoraks but maybe not the public - four parties ruled out working with reform, but not each other

@LukeTryl@TeleriGlynJones We'll be running lots of new survey items on people's emotions towards politics in the election study. I think politics has always been emotional, but this is such a charged election and time in the world. Great to see the qual work showing the value of emotions in politics.
Absolutely top work from @ElectoralWales on their voter information booklet. People of Wales, please read and share it. Make a plan to vote, bring other people who need help getting to the polling station.
YouGov's first MRP of the 2026 Holyrood election shows the SNP are on course for a small majority
SNP: 67 (+3 from 2021)
Ref: 20 (+20)
Lab: 15 (-7)
Grn: 11 (+3)
LD: 9 (+5)
Con: 7 (-24)
With that said though, the series does illustrate how narrow a range of actions the Senedd is playing with in reality. Hard to see the sort of game changing government Wales needs within the current parameters, and yet we have so little ability to shape our economic context.
IFS has done amazing work in breaking down the parties' manifestos so quickly as they have emerged. Their series is a must read for anyone trying to gauge the forward implications of May's #Senedd election
NEW: "Taken together, Plaid Cymru's plans would amount to a notable increase in spending...Unfortunately, they provide little information on how they would pay for these increases."
